Boot Loop

Nest Doorbell Wired will not fully turn on looks to be stuck on boot loop. I tried everything and nothing is working, power cycle, new transformer, Factory Reset, and so on. The unit will not stay on long enough to do any interactions and this happened at random. I was not doing any changes to the unit as I thought the transformer went bad as I used a multi meter thinking it was a power issue as the power would come up to 16v then fully drop to 0v then back up.  I then had the same results with the new transformer so this is why I'm guessing it did a firmware update via wifi and crashed at some point during the update. I tried hooking up the unit to USB to find a way to update it that way but no luck.

Hi Link2, I'm and end user like you.    Is this the new Doorbell (Battery) model or the previous generation Doorbell HELLO?    How old is this camera?

I got it in 12/2019 it’s the wired version that uses the power from the doorbell transformer.

So it turns out the the HELLO doorbell actually does have a battery inside that recharges.   As I understand it, the battery keeps the doorbell running when someone hits the button to ring your doorbell.  At that moment all the AC power is sent to your indoor chime and during that time there is no AC power for the doorbell, the the battery keeps it doing for those brief moments.  If the battery is dead the the camera will reboot when the button is hit.  However if the battery is dead the it can cause the symptoms you are describing.

Unfortunately this battery is not user replaceable.  If you go onto Youtube there is a video that shows how to open the camera but it is rather involved.   I think your best bet is to purchase a used HELLO doorbell from ebay.   I actually did that about a year ago and it works fine.   I do not recommend replacing it with the new Doorbell (battery) due to a number of limitations on the new version (sorry google).

I did talk to nest support and came to the conclusion that it’s a bad unit. Also it’s past the warranty coverage of course, so can’t get it replaced. So with that I’m going to have to get a new one as I do not have the tools to fix this unit at home. Then the cost of buying the equipment to just getting a new one will be justifiable. Thank you for the info!

If you can figure out a way to fix them I'd love to hear the details.  But in the big picture it might just be far less pain and effort to purchase a used one from ebay.  That is what I have done twice and both cameras are going strong after a year.
