Buzzing noise on cold days in NH winter

I have a nest wired doorbell. It has been installed with the white puck.

Last winters on cold days it would give a continuous buzzing noise. If I switch off the camera then the amount of buzzing will reduce but still persist.

What should I do to prevent it this winter.

I read that an additional resistor (10 ohm) have helped in this situation

Please advice

Hi @hardeepsingh,

Thanks for posting here in the community! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest doorbell is giving a continuous buzzing noise. I'd be happy to help!

To better investigate the situation, I’d like to ask the following:

  • What's the exact model of your Nest Doorbell? Nest Doorbell (wired), previously known as Nest Hello or Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd generation)?
  • Do you have a mechanical chime connected to your doorbell?
  • When did you install the Nest Doorbell?
  • Did the chime work properly when you first installed the doorbell?
  • Have you checked for any loose or exposed wires that might be touching each other or the doorbell wall plate?

In the meantime, I’d suggest the following:

  • Wire Connections: Ensure all wire connections are tight, secure, and free from corrosion or paint.
  • Reseating Connections: Disconnect and reconnect all wire connections to the Nest Doorbell, chime connector, and the chime.
  • Voltage Check: If you have a multimeter, verify that the wires are providing the correct voltage.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Following is the information you requested

- Model is Next Doorbell Wired (2nd Generation)

- Yes it is a mechanical Chime

It is an existing chime that came with the house. It had 2 Doorbells hooked to it. Front Doorbell and the Rear Doorbell. I only replaced the Front Doorbell with the Next doorbell. I connected it ‘chime puck’ correctly to the appropriate terminals on the Mechanical Chime

- I installed the doorbell around this time last year (plus/minus a couple of months). It was bought from Home depot and I can dig out the receipts.

- The chime worked properly when Zi connected it. It is working correctly these days. Last year it gave an issue in Winter (Continuous buzzing noise) when the temperature falls. The house is in NH. When the temperature rises in the  winter the buzzing noise is no longer present. The same issue is going to occur this winter and thus wanted to get it resolved.

Last year when I opened the Mechanical Chime enclosure, I saw the solenoid vibrating (going up and down) and this was causing the buzzing / humming noise

- I have check the connections, measured the voltage at the point where Next wired doorbell is connected and it is all good. This check was part of my installation.

Please advice.
