Camera Won't Turn On After Factory Reset

Mdot65
Community Member

Hello,

I've recently moved and am trying to set up my outdoor, Nest battery operated cameras. I could not get them set up in the home app and after following Google's troubleshooting guides, I tried a factory reset. I held the power button on the back until I heard the countdown chime. Now, I can't seem to get the camera to power on at all. There is no response when I mount it to the magnetic holder, nor when I push the button on the back.

Hello Mdot65

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, what is the light status of your Nest Camera? Do you have the battery type? In case you do, please follow the proper steps to reset it.

To reset:

1. Locate the reset button on the back of your Nest Camera.

  • Tip: The reset button on your Nest Camera is located on the back of the camera head.

2. Press and hold the button:

  • At 10 seconds, the status light will flash yellow four times, and you’ll hear a countdown tone.
  • At 12 seconds, the status light will be steady, solid yellow while the camera starts the factory reset, and you’ll hear a confirmation tone.

3. Release the button. Your Nest Camera will restore to its factory settings.

4. After the factory reset, your Nest Camera will appear as “Offline” in the app until you remove it.

To remove it from the app, open the app, tap on the device, then tap Settings> Remove device > Confirm.

5. To learn more, you may visit our public article about “Restart or factory reset Nest camera or doorbell”.

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Emerson

I hold down the button and it just blinks white. What does that indicate?

Hi canosoup,

I appreciate your efforts in posting here. In case you have the Nest Cam (battery), a pulsing white light means it's starting up. Your camera will also play a start tone when this happens. If it's a blinking white, it has successfully connected. To confirm, is it charging when you did this?

Let us know your update here.

Best,

Emerson

Hi Emerson,

correct, it is charging when I do this. It won’t even complete the start up tone after the blinking, it does the first note 🎶 and dies.

Hey canosoup,

Thanks for getting back to us. You may start fresh and connect your Nest Camera to its charger. It will chime once so give it time to turn on itself. When you see that it's charging, follow the steps above to properly reset it to the factory default. After the reset, you may go ahead and set it up to the Google Home app.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Emerson

I am having the same issue too.  My google nest camera is only about 1 year old,  and it is not working at all.  i have charged the camera,  did a factory reset, and still no chime sound .  It is like the camera itself has died.   I am not sure what do to.  Can we send the camera in to google for repair?

Hi Lance,

i have filled out the form, along with all the complains of how I was treated by google.   Please let me know how you can help ( replacement for camera/ or repair the camera?)  because right now I am stuck with $200 paper weight camera that can not do anything.

Thank you for the help

Good luck, I’m going to switch to Ring cameras, I tried their support just to see how it was and it was actually really great. The return policies are wonderful. Also, I think they really care about their annual customers.
