I'm monitoring the traffic on my router for my internal devices. It appears the indoor cameras are constantly sending several hundred bytes through my network every couple of seconds. They are NOT streaming any video at this point as they are not detecting movement while I am home (presence sensing of my phone via home/away). Why is this happening?

Hello ebeard,
Thanks for posting here in the Community. Generally, most internet plans have a lower bandwidth for upload speeds and a high bandwidth for download speeds.
Make sure that your internet service plan has enough upload bandwidth to support the number of Nest Cameras you have. Check with your internet service provider to learn about your plan's upload and download speeds, and whether they meet the requirements below. Hit this link for more information.
I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Sadly I replied to the email and it was not added to this conversation. Your response completely dances around the question and does not answer it at all. I fully understand the concept of bandwidth up and down. I have unlimited of each. The question was "Why are the cameras constantly sending data to the router when they are not broadcasting any video. More specifically why are are few 100 bytes being sent every few seconds?" I'm asking for why the data is being sent when the cameras should be inactive - not about having enough internet bandwidth.

Hey ebeard,
Thanks for getting back to us. The connection of your Nest Camera should be maintained with the cloud server and your app on your mobile phone. So it'll constantly send packet data to your router as their connection. Let us know if you have other questions in mind.
Best,
Emerson
