I'm trying to connect Nest Doorbell (wired)
if I don't have a regular doorbell yet, do I need to connect a chime connector?
should a chime connector be installed between the nestdoorbell and the transformer?
does the connector provide any additional protection in this case?

No you do not need to install it. It is only used if you are trying to have the doorbell inside the home ring when the button is pushed.

Hi there,
Thank you for your help here, @EmptyNester. It is true, you do not need to use the included Chime Puck with your Nest Doorbell 2nd Gen (wired). You can set up Visitor Announcements in the app and connect your device to a smart speaker or display like a Nest Hub, for example. Please let me know if you need my help.
Best regards,
Brad

It would be helpful if Google Nest Support gave the same answer when asked if a "chime puck" is needed when there is no indoor chime.
On this thread here, @Brad says it is NOT needed.
On another thread (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Nest-Doorbell-2nd-Generation-do-you-nee...), @janthadeus says it IS needed.
Which is it?

My question was directed to you because you and @janthadeus gave opposite answers to the same question in this forum.
Are you now saying that the answer as to whether a "chime puck" is needed when there is no wired indoor chime can only be provided by Support?

No, it is simply that I wish to direct those questions to support. Please reach out to them for further assistance.
Best regards,
Brad
