Cameras going offline

STOPchris

I have a 2nd gen Nest indoor camera, 2 indoor/outdoor Nest cameras and one 2nd gen Google Nest doorbell.

Why is it that my cameras go offline? I have several Google nest cameras and they go offline. I had a Asus ROG AX1600 router and they would go offline all the time. The only thing that would bring them back was restarting my router. I tried everything, including all of the usual Iot router settings. Nothing worked. It was so frustrating.

I recently upgraded my router to an Orbi 970 mesh system and it has been a lot better. However, today a camera went offline. The way I got it back was by going into the router settings and shutting off internet access to the camera and then reenabling internet access.

These cameras have been embarrassingly bad from a company the size of Google. They are supposed to be “security” cameras, but there is nothing secure when they’re unreliable.

Hi STOPchris,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry that you're having troubles with your Google Nest cameras going offline. I understand how frustrating this can be. I understand that they are important for your safety; do not worry, I will do everything possible to help you find the cause of the problem.

Before I begin, I need to ask a few questions for further assistance:

  • When did the issue start?

  • Are you getting any error messages?

  • Has the camera ever successfully connected to this network?

  • Does the camera have a Nest Aware subscription?

  • How far is the camera from the nearest mesh Wi-Fi point?

  • Have you made any recent changes to your network (besides the router upgrade), like name/password changes?

  • What Wi-Fi frequency band are you primarily using (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)?

  • Besides restarting the router and disabling/reenabling internet access to the camera, what other troubleshooting steps have you tried?

Please keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Kevin
