Cameras stay on when Home, even though switch is off

We have three indoor cams and a thermostat.  The cameras are set to turn off when we’re “home” and be off when we’re “away.”  We have two phones that control home/away assist.  When one of us leaves, the cameras remain on, even though the app says “Home.”  The only way I’ve found to switch the cameras off is to switch them off manually from the app, but the on/off switch always shows off, even though the cameras are on.

I have to switch the switch to “on,” then back to “off” every day. I have never used the scheduling function. I’ve already tried uninstalling the app from both phones, removing the cameras, and then reinstalling everything.

Hi there,

Sorry for my late response. Thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I just wanted to make sure that your issue is addressed. I can definitely understand how frustrating your situation must be. I would love to help you find a solution to this issue.

  • Do you still need help with this issue?

  • What troubleshooting steps have you done thus far?

  • Have you tried to restart your device if you haven’t already?

  • If the restart didn’t work, have you tried to do a Factory Reset? This would be a last resort option, but would clear out issues and the device would essentially be ‘brand new’

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Yes, I am still trying to resolve this issue. It’s been an issue since I got the cameras, but it’s become especially annoying since my girlfriend had to start working at home due to COVID.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Nest app from both our phones, I’ve tried removing the cameras from the Nest service and then adding them back.  Ive tried all of this at once, and piecemeal.  This issue has happened with our current and past phones.   I had a thread open on a prior Nest help forum, and was told to look at the home/away history, which just confirmed that the system is setting home and away correctly, but not shutting off the cameras.

I can only get the cameras to turn off by either toggling “Home” and “Away,” or turning the camera “on” (even though it is on) and then off again.

I have come across some people reporting the same problem in the nest support forums, and it has usually ended with somebody from Nest saying something about the warranty.
