Can I install a Nest Cam Floodlight without a junction box

Yanks332

I am having the siding on my house replaced so I decided to also replace my existing floodlight and Nest camera (separate from light) with the Nest Cam Floodlight. There is no junction box for the current light and my contractor said I should just screw the Nest mounting plate to the Hardie Plank siding (he is not an electrician). Can I do this or do I need to install a junction box like the instructions say?

Thanks @spetro. I spoke to my electrician and he is coming to recess a pancake box into the Azek trim that was put where the light will go.
