Can an image be superimposed by a hacker

Hello,

I'm writing this for my sister.  She too has a Nest Camera in her home.  She heard a noise and checked her camera.  The imagine on the camera was startling.  It is a very clear image of an ghost.  This is not an attempt at humor, so my sincere hope is that someone can share if a hacker can in fact, superimpose an image?  It was dark, so infra was working.  The image is clear but pickled like the rest of the room.

At night, with infrared Night Vision enabled, depending on the amount of light, people sometimes appear as ghostly white figures on our 1st and 2nd gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells. Other posts I've seen elsewhere from other security cameras sometimes show the same thing.

Thank you for the reply.  What is startling is that the image is transparent, seeing clothing and skin behind it.  I'm on with Google support hoping they can diagnose the image.
