Can't Connect to wifi

I have 2 nest outdoor cameras that I bought in one package.   I set one up and it worked fine.  I waited to setup the second one and when I tried to set it up I can't get it to connect.  I did a reset and started over.  The first camera reset fine but when I went to setup the second camera I still couldn't get it to connect.  What am I doing wrong?

In order to get any hints from other customers, it would help to know what exactly happens when it "can't connect". You say you waited to set up the second one; did you wait long enough that perhaps the battery needs to be charged first? And is the second camera farther from a Wi-Fi access point than the first one?

Hello everyone,

@swmpr, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, what is the light status of your Nest Camera? Do you see any error messages? How did you perform the reset? Hit this link for more information about resetting your Nest Camera. Let us know your update here.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

The light on the camera is white.  I have tried to add the camera through Google Home and the Nest app.  Everything goes fine until I get to the step where you plug the power cord into the camera.  It says the camera will chime and the light will turn white.  Then the light is supposed to turn blue and you should be able to connect.  The light never turns blue and it won't connect to the app.  I setup 1 camera several months ago and everything worked fine.  I tried to add a second camera and kept having problems so I did a factory reset and now I can't get either on to setup.  The error message I get is "Try moving closer to your nest cam (battery)."

Is Bluetooth enabled and turned on on your phone?

If it is, since you cannot even get the camera to a ready status (blue light) for the install and have tried a factory reset, perhaps you have a defective camera and should contact Support for a replacement, using the link and instructions in the post below:

Hi swmpr,

Thanks for posting in our Community. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues setting up your Nest camera. Let’s check it out.

Let´s factory reset the device. Follow the steps below:

  1. Save any video history on the device, if any. Follow this guide.
  2. Unmount the device and then connect it to the USB cable and power adapter.
  3. Locate the reset pinhole on the back of the device.
  4. Insert and hold the pin (you can use an unfolded paper clip or a thumbtack).
    1. At 10 seconds, the status light will blink yellow four times, and you’ll hear a countdown tone.
    2. At 12 seconds, the status light will be steady, solid yellow while the device starts the factory reset, and you’ll hear a confirmation tone.
  5. Release the button. Your device will restore to its factory settings.
  6. After the factory reset, your device will appear as "Offline" in the app until you remove it.
  7. To remove it from the app, open the app, then tap Settings > Remove device>  Confirm.
  8. Make sure the phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as the selected network for the Nest device.
  9. Bluetooth should be enabled, but it should not be connected to any Bluetooth devices. Disconnect any Bluetooth devices paired to your phone, such as earbuds, smartwatches, etc.
  10. Cellular data should be turned off.
  11. If you have an iOS device, tap Settings > Privacy > Local Network and turn on Local Network Access for the Google Home app.
  12. Start adding the device back to the Google Home app.

Let me know how it goes.

I appreciate your help, Emerson, and MplsCustomer.

Best,

Lance
