Can’t add Google nest wired doorbell in Google Home app

Allawishis

Recently, I changed Internet service providers. When trying to add my Google nest wired doorbell camera back to the Google Home app after deleting it, it doesn’t work. In Google Home, I go to devices Ad/Google or Nest partner device then it asked me to scan QR code. After I scan QR code nothing happens. I’ve tried it several times I factory defaulted the Nest wired camera added back to the Nest app no problem. I removed it from the Google Home and just can’t get it back.

There is a quirk that customers in this forum with thermostats have encountered for at least a year that might help you. When they install a thermostat in the Google Nest app, it fails to show up AUTOMATICALLY in the Google Home app, even though they're logging onto both apps with the same Google Account and using the same Google Nest "home/structure". Many of them have fixed the problem with this workaround:

1) In the Google Nest app, create a new, temporary Google Nest "home/structure".

2) Go to that empty Google Nest "home/structure" in the Google Home app and delete it.

3) This apparently forces the 2 apps to sync, and their thermostat then appears in the Google Home app.

Maybe if you try this, your doorbell will appear in the Google Home app.

@Allawishis

Which doorbell do you have????

The 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell can only be installed in the Google Nest app (but will then appear in the Google Home app if you're logging into both apps with the same Google Account and accessing the same Google Nest "home/structure".

The 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell can only be installed in the Google Home app.

Hello and thank you for your reply.  Sorry I thought it was implied since I was adding it back to the Google Home app. Before I had it in the Nest app and google home app which allowed me to see it from my google hub.  I installed it into the nest app first but it did not appear in the google home app after.  So when trying to ad it to the google home app and after scanning the QR code on the back of the device nothing happens. The app just goes back to Devices and the Add button is at the bottom.  No errors, no spinning wheel or anything.  How do I know if it's gen 1 or 2?  Looked at box and doesn't mentioned anything about that.

Attached are images of the (1st gen) Google Nest Hello Doorbell (which is smaller, has been out for many years, gets installed in the Google Nest app, can be accessed on the home.nest.com website, and then appears in the Google Home app [with some but not all functions available]), and the (2nd gen) Google Nest Doorbell (which is larger, comes in several colors, has been available since October 2022, gets installed in the Google Home app, can be accessed for livestream only on the home.google.com website, and does NOT appear in the Google Nest app).

It sounds like you probably have the (1st gen) Google Nest Hello Doorbell. When it's installed in the Google Nest app, it should ALSO appear AUTOMATICALLY in the Google Home app, provided that you're signing onto both apps with the same Google Account and accessing the same Google Nest "home/structure". If that's what you have, you cannot "add" or "install" it in the Google Home app; it should be automatic.

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting in the Google Nest Community forum. I'd like to check if you managed to see the response above. Please let us know how it goes.

I appreciate your help, @MplsCustomer.

Regards,

Jenelyn

Yea by the looks I have the 1st gen, all black one above. So I reset my gen 1 nest to factory and added back to the nest app. It doesn’t show in Google home and I can’t manually ad it to Google home. Both are signed in to the same Google account. I have a Google hub that shows but not the nest door bell cam.

Genius you are! Once I added new home to nest app it showed up right away in the home app without doing anything else. Thank you so much that was a doozy.

@Allawishis

Great!

Just be sure to delete that newly-added empty Google Nest "home/structure" so it doesn't cause you any confusion down the road.
