Can’t reset camera to new wifi

We changed our WiFi provider and now the indoor camera (wired) doesn’t work. We unplugged multiple times to reset and it didn’t work. It also doesn’t have a reset button. We also deleted the device from our Google home app.

Hello @Dramsey ,

Sorry to hear of the troubles connecting the Nest Cam (wired) to your new Wifi router. In order to connect it you will need to perform a factory reset on the device by following these steps:

Use the reset button

  1. Locate the reset hole on the bottom of the camera head. It’s between the power cord and the camera neck. (See attached picture)
  2. Insert a paper clip, thumbtack or similar into the hole. Press and hold down.
    • At 10 seconds, the status light will blink yellow four times, and you’ll hear a countdown tone.
    • At 12 seconds, the status light will be solid yellow. When the camera begins resetting, you’ll hear a confirmation tone.
  3. Release the button. Your camera will restore to its factory settings.
  4. After the factory reset, your camera will appear as “Offline” in the app until you remove it.

Once you have completed those steps, you will then be able to add it as a camera in the Google Home app. Just go to the Devices tab, select + Add, New Device, and follow the on-screen prompts.

Let me know if you have any troubles along the way.

I had the same problem over and over using my Android.  Figured out I needed to restart my phone everytime I need to hook a camera up.  My phone is older by the way.  I'm sure that's why I have to do it.

It depends on which camera you have.

For some older cameras that were installed in the Google Nest app, it may be possible to go into the Google Nest app and update the Wi-Fi settings (see the link below). For the remaining older cameras that do not have a reset button, you need to remove the camera from the Google Nest app while you are still on the old Wi-Fi network.  If you are unable to do that, some posts in this forum suggest you can wait 60 days until your Nest Aware subscription expires and then try to reinstall.

For newer cameras that were installed in the Google Home app, you should remove the camera from the Google Home app while you are still on the old Wi-Fi network; that should also perform a factory reset. If that doesn't work, you need to do a manual factory reset (see the link below).

Since changing Wi-Fi settings on Google Nest's cameras and doorbells is problematic, Google Nest's first recommendation when changing Wi-Fi is to set the network name (SSID) and password on your new router/modem to the same values used on your old router/modem. That's what we did when we got a new router/modem a year ago, and we didn't have to update anything.
