Cannot mount doorbell anymore

The release mechanism seems to be stuck so I'm no longer able to mount the doorbell. Everything else works fine. How do I resolve this?

FRUSTRATING……I’ve been having the same issue with the doorbell not mounting securely on to the metal bracket (attached to the wedge).  Give this a try.  Push the unlocking key into the top slot of the doorbell a few times this will move the tiny locking dot mechanism (in and out).   Dust and debris build up around the tiny dot which prevents it from protruding out to catch onto the mounting bracket. I think this must be done periodically.  Definitely a design flaw but this works for me for now. PS I found this advice from researching another thread complaining about the same exact issue.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately the mechanism doesn't move at all when I push the key in.
