Connecting a device on the same network but different WIFI SID to Nets

Ruprect_88

Hi

I have a remote gate opener at my front gate (200 mts away from the house) Google nest compatible

Its connected to my home network (via Ethernet over Powerline) so it also has an internet connection.

Google home wont connect to it because its not on the same WIFI? Its on the same network though?

I also plan on using a Google Doorbell at the gate but If its not on the same wifi then I dont think this will work either?

Any help would be appreciated

It being hardwired shouldn't matter as long as your phone and the device are connected to the same network (not necessarily a Wi-Fi network). Do you have multiple Wifi points in your home? Do you use Wifi extenders or anything like that?

HI David

Yes I have 2 WIFI Networks Both are on the same Network though.

1 is in the house from the Main Telstra Router (Which has all my Nest devices so far) and the second is out at the front gate via a Ethernet over power adapter (TP-Link WPA8631P) which has the gate controller and eventually a Google doorbell connected to it.

All are still on the same network/subnet just different SSid's

I want to use Google assistant to open the gate. Ive linked the account and setup the device but it says its offline because its not on the same wifi?

Try temporarily connecting your doorbell or remote gate opener to your Telstra router, and I imagine they'll work perfectly fine, with Google Home able to control them. Assuming that works fine, you know it's an issue being caused by the TP-Link unit. It may have some settings you can adjust to resolve this. Google has a good article (it refers to Nest Wifi but the guidance still applies) that outlines the issues Wifi extenders can cause, which I suspect is what is occurring here.

Use Nest Wifi or Google Wifi with wireless extenders - Google Nest Help

Thanks David

I read that article but I'm not sure it applies Here?

Im not using a WIFI Extender.

All my devices are connected to the same network but over 2 separate WIFI SSIDS

Ive just received my Google door bell now so I'll have a play with that as I cant connect the gate opener to my telstra router as its installed at the gate which is 200 mtrs away.

Hi everyone,

@Ruprect_88. Sounds like a plan; make sure you connect the Google Nest Doorbell to a 2.4 GHz network. Let me know if you have any additional questions from here.

Best,
Edmond
