Does this need to be wired to a switch, or is it okay to wire it to constant power?

It does not need to be on a switch , it would use constant power yes.

I installed mine where my existing floodlights are, and I leave the switch on. It was nice because all I had to do is flip the switch off to replace them, then turn it back on. I will probably leave the switch rather than cover it, just so I can flip them off (maybe during a bad storm) or for some reason, but they do not need a switch and you can directly hard wire them to constant power.
