Door chime hums intermittently

OldtechGuy

There have been a number of posts about the door chime humming after Nest doorbell has been installed. I have followed all the suggestions without relief. I have turned off the electronic chime option and I have retaped all the wires leading to the chime. I see all the threads have now been closed. I'd appreciate any further thoughts. Thanks.

After much effort, the fault seems to lie with the wiring in my old (circa 1940) house. A regular doorbell works fine but the Nest doorbell seems to be too taxing, complicated by a few other phantom wires that are shorting out, likely the result of abandoned doorbells from many years ago. I have decided to abandon the wired Nest and replace it with a battery model

Sorry to hear you weren't able to go with the installation you wanted, but I hope the Nest Doorbell (battery) does the trick. You can follow this guide for installation. Please let me know if you need further assistance. We'll keep this thread open for 24 more hours for any follow-up questions or concerns.

Best regards,
