Doorbell delay

Dlanorb

My doorbell never gives me a full view of the person triggering the camera. I’ll get an elbow of the person entering the home, or the back of someone leaving a good 15 feet away or nothing at all. Seem to have quite the delay

@Dlanorb

Do you have the newly released 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell?  Or do you have the Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) wired to your doorbell wires?

If it is the latter, it could be because the Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) runs on battery power even when it is wired, and when on battery power it is probably in "Idle" mode most of the time, and takes a little while to wake-up and detect and record an event. We have a Google Nest Camera (Battery) plugged in with the optional power cable and it does a good job of detecting events, but if we unplug it, it goes into "Idle" mode and does not detect an event when we walk directly in front of the camera.

Hi folks,

@Dlanorb we appreciate your posting here in the community. To know more about this issue, can you send us the screenshot of what you're referring to?

Give these steps a try:

  • Force close the Google Home App.
  • If the delay is 10 seconds or more and it happens after you watched the video in the Nest app for a long time, ask them to reload the camera’s video feed. To do that, navigate back to the Nest app or Google Home app's home screen and tap on the camera again to refresh the connection.
  • In case the Nest cam is connected to your Wifi extender, try connecting it directly to your main Wifi router

Keep us posted.

I appreciate the help @MplsCustomer.

Regards,

Emerson

Can you please re-read the original post by @Dlanorb  and my reply? If a battery camera or battery doorbell fails to record an event because the device is "Idle" and does not wake up, no screen capture of the unrecorded event is possible. If a battery camera or battery doorbell in "Idle" mode wakes up late and captures only the back of the delivery person as they walk away from the door after making a delivery, what would a screen shot prove?

Many of us customers are reporting that when the battery camera is not plugged in and running on battery power, and when the battery doorbell is always running on battery, they are late in beginning to record an event because they are in "Idle" mode and are slow to wake up, and sometimes they don't wake up at all and fail entirely to record the event.
