Download a video clip in home app without an event

Someone has stolen something off of my front lawn. The camera caught the incident however it did not generate an event to trigger a download option.  

How can I download the video without an event option?

That's one of several unfortunate results of Google Nest's decision that its newer cameras and doorbells would work only in the Google Home app.

Some customers have reported they resorted to using their phone's video capture tool to save a non-event while it was being played.

I was able to show the police the video but was not able to capture it.

Is there an eta as to when we will be able to create clips without needing an event to trigger it?
