Drop Cam Replacement Offer

Vincefont
Community Member

I received an email on April 7, 2023 and another email today informing me about my free Drop Cam replacement.  When I click on the link on either email, I get directed to the website to buy a Drop Cam and on the checkout page, I'm being charged $107.74.  I'm hesitant to press "confirm purchase" because a rebate wasn't applied.  There is an ability to add a promo code but there was no promo code on either email.

Hi folks,

Apologies for the earlier confusion. If you are looking for additional information about the end of support for Dropcam, Dropcam Pro, and Nest Secure please visit our recent blog for more information.

Eligible customers were sent emails and in-app messages containing details about the offers available to them. If you did not receive an email or message, or if you are having trouble redeeming an offer, we are unable to assist further in the Nest Community. See below for the options depending on your situation.

For questions about Dropcam and Dropcam Pro, please reach out to our support team through the following page: https://goo.gle/31i1U5t

If you’re having issues redeeming an offer for Nest Secure, please fill out this form

Kindly,

Obed

@Paul33

You could try contacting Support about whether you qualify for a replacement. I think that you had to have your Dropcam on an active Nest Aware subscription in April 2023 when they announced they were dropping support for Dropcams:

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/An-update-for-our-Nest-Secure-Dropcam-and-Works-with-Nes...

To contact Support:

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

I agree with you and support what you are saying. This is awful and they should be doing better than this !

Jack,

I didn't  see the replacement offer either.  Can you fill me in on the process please?  I have 6 pro dropcam cameras and one Nest camera.  Is Nest going out of the camera business altogether?

Hi there,

I wanted to follow up and see if you were able to fill out the form?. Let me know if you have additional questions.

Regards,
Edmond

I was not provided with the form because the tech person stated I don’t qualify. We didn’t have it plugged in due to a move and now I don’t get a replacement. Which I feel is very unfair. Our product which we invested in is now useless and I think this is very greedy on google’s part to just decline this. It was a purchased service which, due to a move I was not able to install. Very disappointed.

Done, thank you. Can you please follow up with management support ?

Hi Chris2399,

Thanks for posting here in the Community. Have you received an email back in April about the promotion and discount for Dropcam replacement?

I look forward to your response.

Edmond

Hi Edmond, I submitted the form. Same as the others above, I missed the email and am hoping you can help. Thanks!

I also have multiple cameras and got no offer. I’m guessing Nest sent it to my old email I can’t access. What can I do? I can’t afford another six cameras at this stage of my life!

Thanks,

#

What happened to my codes and new emails. They should be free but whatever the codes get me it’s ok. I can’t believe $200 cams are being phased out. So wrong in so many ways. People are in a very diff place in life than they were when these came out in early 2010s. I spent like $600 and $150 a year on a sub for this service.  Now I’m older and my situation has changed. I rely on these cams can u please send me codes or something to get new cams. I also have to start picking new options for saving the vids. I was able to monitor a lot in my house and outside. I accepted when you guys decided I couldn’t turn off the cams blue light. The reason for having indoor cams is to catch a potential family member or a friend or helper robbing me blind. Now they just go rob rooms with no cams. I’ve had to practically keep on top of people and really cut jealous ones out whether I had proff or not. ( I had a rare antique stolen by a visiting friends kid and someone really close playing around with my head and moving my crap around) it sounds nuts but people think it’s a joke or funny or you won’t miss something. All of this sucks and having to get new cams sucks. I just want a fair resolution and since I was hit by a car I need these more than ever. Please send me something like a code or coupon or whatever to help me out. Thanks to anyone that can have some empathy for a person just looking to keep an eye on his property and belongings. Thanks!!

Add me to the growing list of frustrated Dropcam Pro users. Those of us who chose these cameras “a decade ago” were investing into long-term quality glass and APIs that allowed us to have access to the data and quality we needed for the foreseeable future. Security cameras may get better every year, but 1080p HD is more than enough quality for most security purposes and still just as useful today as it was ten years ago for me.

I don’t currently have an active Aware subscription, but I did for years. I only canceled it as I had nowhere to use my cameras in my last rental that were allowed. I just bought a house and got my first Dropcam setup again this week to find out it won’t work in six months. I assume the protocols and data won’t be open-sourced, but Nest Aware is still the best subscription service around and I intended to re-subscribe in the next month (maybe…?)

If I can’t get my data and hardware to work on my local network only via open sourced code, then I would like see if I can get my two replacement wired Nest cameras. The outcome of this situation will determine whether I keep my Google doorbells I just bought two months ago, or sell them and go back to Ring with a crappier subscription service.

Here’s to hoping Google will do the right thing here and let me get my two cameras as well. 🤞🏻🙏🏻

I went and activated a one month Nest Aware subscription to see if this can ensure I get the full camera replacement rather than a 50% offer. Not something I should have to do, but easily worth $8 if it gets me in the same group.

@EdmondB  is this thread being monitored still? I posted my comments 2 weeks ago and haven’t heard anything. I also submitted the form others were asked to submit and haven’t received any emails about this.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

@Jenelyn_O or @EmersonBis this thread being monitored still? I posted my comments over 4 weeks ago and haven’t heard anything. I also submitted the form others were asked to submit and haven’t received any emails about this as of yet. Any help is sincerely appreciated.

I wanted to follow-up on this and give a couple of additional details. After being explicitly told that I was *not* eligible for the free Nest cam replacements OR the discounted 50% off code (over emails and chats of a period of a week or two once I reached out in addition to this thread and the form within it), I finally received an email from Google which offered two free replacement cameras.

My best guess is that this is directly due to me being a Nest Aware subscriber since I posted this back in November. I am guessing that they did not do anything special in spite of me being a customer and subscriber for Nest Aware for years upon years. I think I just got lucky and was re-susbcribed when they sent another batch of promo codes out before they are cutting off the old devices once and for all next month.

Hopefully everyone else was able to have better luck than me, but if not, hopefully you were at least included in the most recent batch of codes (if that's what this was). Still beyond disappointed in the circus of jokes of how this has all been handled by Google.

I have 4 active cameras in 3 locations.  I got an email for one camera, although they all are dropcams or dropcam pros.  2 of them showed a popup when accessed, not an email that support is ending.  I just read that they had to be online for a month prior to April 7.  This is unfair since the one here in my kitchen, I only plug in when going away.  My family has access to it and I don’t wish to be monitored.  The other two looked unplugged during that period since the HOA failed to deal with roof leaks and my condo flooded December to February, so the wifi and internet were cut off.  The cameras weren’t unplugged.  Finally, my son was able to get the internet running again in late June.   Literally, last week (early November) the destroyed floor was demolished for the replacement and the furniture including the cameras were moved out of the way.   It ticks me off that I only received the one camera—it is adding insult to injury.  To complicate things more, I couldn’t access my per camera subscriptions at home.nest.com since I was using a Yahoo email for years, so <just now> I am migrating to one of my gmail accounts.  To think, my son even knows the original Drop cam owner🙄

Apparently my yahoo email doesn’t count so I had to register again as jfkeez1.  This is why I don’t use gmail as either of my main email clients. Google is not user friendly.  BTW after having to migrate an account, my iphone can’t access my cameras nor sign in at all

I'm very dissapointed with Nest customer support and dropcam exchange, after hours of chat and exchanging emails, Nest) Simply have send me an email with a discound of a camera they have. I do pay for NestAlert and have paid lots of money for those two dropcams, all I have received is a promo discount code for another monthly subscription product . I'm planing to cancell my Nest Alert accound and sadly would have to toss the useless next year dropcams.

@Sheker

You should have gotten this:

"If you are a current Nest Aware subscriber, we will be offering you a Nest Cam (indoor, wired) on us to help you keep your home secure. If you are not a Nest Aware subscriber, we're offering a 50% discount toward a new Nest Cam (indoor, wired)."

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/An-update-for-our-Nest-Secure-Dropcam-and-Works-with-Nes...

Exactly. I'm Nest Aware subscriber and I'm paying for my service.

I am a current subscriber for several cameras. It should go to my gmail email but keeps linking to my old, inaccessible email.

Me too. No replacement for dropcam email received

I have a total of 6 DropCams in my NestAware account. Please send replacement offers!

I received a form and filled it out. I received an email for me to check here… link in the email takes me to the general topic. Not sure where the reply goes!

frustrated with Google “no service”

Same thing here. I too received an email with a link that brings me here. Now what ?

I have 9 dropcam pros with nest aware subscription.

I lost the nest email. I need the replacement cams.

I also never received the email with the discount code/link. Who do I need to contact to get this?

@@Google customer service is absolutely terrible to deal with. I have had a camera for 8 years. Had it unplugged while we moved during the period and now they say I’m ineligible. They didn’t give me the email either or I could have plugged it in. I’m still fighting with them because they are essentially bricking my camera and didn’t give a fair chance. Their service and professionalism is terrible.

did anyone reply? I too didnt get the email. thanks

I messaged here, followed up a few weeks later and then again. Finally I got ahold of chat support, which made it sound like they’d help me out somehow. They took a few days, accessed my cameras remotely to “verify them”, then passed me on to the Nest customer support team via email. They spent over a week to get back to me to finally tell me that I wasn’t eligible because I didn’t have Nest aware active within the 4 weeks prior to the announcement and therefore I would not be provided new cameras, and not even a discount code to replace them at half off like most others seemed to have received.

So I guess they got back to me several times, but it wasn’t to help me in anyway, unfortunately. This is such a joke…

I have no record of receiving a replacement offer for my dropcam pros in April 2023.  I need to get a new promo code to order new cameras.

Shall we do a class action suit?

Yes that might be the best option. I have two functional cameras over 10 years and nest aware, nest thermostats, Google assistant, Google TV. I expected better treatment.

Yes I never received a email either from them

I received one replacement in 2023 but was owed two. Just received the email offer again and was charged for the free reply. Talked to 3 c.s. People over 3 hrs. And supplied serial #’s camera access with no success. Very frustrated and disappointed in Google. Dropcam was a great company before Google bought it.
