Dropcam setup out of date

justsoc31

I purchased a new router.  I am trying to link my dropcam camera to the WIFI but the app won't recognize the QR code on the dropcam.  MY phone and my wife's phone won't pick up the QR code for three of my cameras.  I then plugged the camera into my computer and used the "dropcam" setup that loads up on my computer but then it gave me this error message.

“Dropcam Setup (Macintosh)” needs to be updated. The developer of this app needs to update it work with this version of macOS”

Is there a place to find an updated software?  HAs anyone else had this problem?

There are a number of us that have this problem. Is anyone from Nest of Google going to step up and help?

My second dropcam just went out today. First one went out about a month ago. Computer won't recognize it and the QR code won't scan.

Really, Google? You just ignore people who have old Nest devices and are running a recent version of MacOS? Are you trying to be like Sonos?

I have only MacOS at home, my old DropCam Pro was working fine until I had to change routers and now I can't set it up it anymore even though it works fine with my old router. When trying to launch setup on MacOS 10.15.7/Intel it gives me the '"DropCam Setup (Macintosh)" needs to be updated' message and there appears to be no solution.

This will be the last Nest/Google item I purchase since they apparently think it's acceptable to break compatibility with popular platforms.

Same here on MAC! Spent way too much time with the plethera of tips that DO NOT WORK. Dropcam has been a wonderful product I have used for years. Now Google has ruined it. Guess I'm not surprised, but would have liked to be pleasantly surprised with an answer/fix from them here.

problem is that Dropcam SW is an old 32 bit app which won't run unless your Mac is running high Sierra or prior MacOS. From Catalina onwards its 64 bit.

here is an option but its quite a lot of work

For what its worth, I had luck setting up from my phone instead of from my computer.

I couldn't set up from my phone. The QR code doesn't scan.

Same here. @itsallgoodie, please share how you accomplished it. Please note we are referring to the very first old dropcams, I believe from the second generation onwards you could scan the qrcode from the phone

Mine has a code on it that I can type by hand. Scanning didn't work for me either. I am using a Dropcam Pro

Awesome!  Where do you enter the code?

I just followed the instructions on the app to set up a new device and on the page that it wanted to scan on I clicked the “continue without scanning” button

In order to get an old dropcam working with a Mac you need the OS to be able to run 32 bit apps.  I got my hands in an old MacBook pro and got the dropcam recognized by the os and the app launched, I notice that what it actually does is launch a browser with an embedded URL link, probably made out of the camera info(haven’t had the time to analyze it) but if Google can provide how that URL is built, maybe users could type it manually instead of trying to find old equipment to run 32 bits apps. Just a thought

Hey there.

Thanks for the feedback! I wouldn't know how to get you any of that information if I'm being honest, as this product was discontinued a while ago. Best I can suggest is go through what is available on the Help Center and see what you can do to troubleshoot the issues it's having.

Best regards,

Brad.

Appreciating that it's discontinued, it continues to be used.  I personally bought two boxes of four from you, so please stay engaged, as your brand's reputation depends on it.  SO, we have cameras that are fully functional, but unable to be re-installed into our Google/Nest system.   The code on the back isn't a QR.  We need to be able to enter the information manually.   Thanks.
