Floodlight Camera (Wired) Lost Connection and Won't Reconnect

markwgaither

Yeah, like SO many others, my Nest floodlight camera lost connection. After multiple resets with no luck, I removed it and now it cannot be added back.

Before I get the same old, lame suggestions:

  • I cut power to the camera, then restored power... no change.
  • I powered down the router and modem, then reinitialized... no change.
  • I powered down my phone and the camera, then reinitialized both... no change.
  • I waited several days with the power off (like the Google Displays seem to want when they lose connection), then reinitialized but... no change.

This is simply a terrible product. But I'm stuck.

So, any other suggestions?

You could try adding a wifi extender, or even, replacing your present router with a mesh router.

I have a mesh router with an extender no more than 30 feet away. This was the setup for the 11 months the camera worked. Then, inexplicably, it lost connection.

Thanks, though.

Have you tried approaching one of the mesh points closer to the camera and then restarting the camera, as 30 feet is still a relatively far distance? Other than that, I am at a loss to help you. Good luck.

Hello folks,

@markwgaither, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, how did you perform the reset? What is the light status of your Nest Camera?

Give these steps a try:

1. Locate the reset button on the back of your Nest Camera.

  • Tip: The reset button on your Nest Camera is located on the back of the camera head.

2. Press and hold the button:

  • At 10 seconds, the status light will flash yellow four times, and you’ll hear a countdown tone.
  • At 12 seconds, the status light will be steady, solid yellow while the camera starts the factory reset, and you’ll hear a confirmation tone.

3. Release the button. Your Nest Camera will restore to its factory settings.

4. After the factory reset, your Nest Camera will appear as “Offline” in the app until you remove it.

To remove it from the app, open the app, tap on the device, then tap Settings> Remove device > Confirm.

5. To learn more, you may visit our public article about “Restart or factory reset Nest camera or doorbell”.

I appreciate the help, gilleslibre.

Best,

Emerson

Welp, that worked. Force removed the old instance, then did the factory reset. Not fun one-handed on a ladder.  The install was straightforward after that.

Thanks!
