Force device to use specific wifi point

Andy298

I've worked with enough WiFi solutions over the years to understand that it is down to the device to pick which point to connect to. Devices that are intelligent enough 'should' base this decision on signal quality, speed and so on. So imagine my frustration when two Google device (Nest Cam Outdoor) refuse to connect to the point which is literally sat next to them in one of my bedrooms! I have rebooted network, reset network, rebooted devices after rebooting the network, yet these specific cameras will constantly connect to the main Nest router, which is indeed the furthest away!

Is there anything else I can try before I give up and throw out the Nest WiFi solution. I categorically cannot have cameras disconnecting for any period of time, because.... well, what's the point in having security cameras if they are unable to record!?

Hi @Andy298

I am afraid the Nest Wifi does not offer you such solution. 🙄
Something you could try is in the Wifi settings (Google Home app) select the device and press the Check device speed. It should optimise it at that time.

This is more a Nest Cam Outdoor problem than Nest Wifi IMO, so I'll move it to that forum.

I'll also escalate the thread, as I also think this is something that should be looked into.

I don't work for Google.

Not it is not, it is the nest wifi issue.  Get the mac addresses from the two outdoors and you can force them to go to a certain router

Not with Nest Wifi, such advanced features is out of scope of a simple home mesh Wi-Fi system. It will likely never be implemented (speaking of experience here, I've requested simpler features myself).

So then we're left with Wi-Fi clients that don't change to the stronger Wi-Fi signal.

If you can log into the router, you should be able to get the mac address from the two google devices outdoor and force them to connect to a specific router
