Google Home App vs Nest

Why is the Google Home App PAINFULLY slow?  I have hundreds of dollars of Google Nest Cameras, and since they switched from the Nest app to Google Home, they are almost unusable.  Please don’t say it is my system… the Nest app works great. The Google Home app is a mess!  Is this being fixed?

@SAF2498   I'm running both apps on a daily basis and I'm also on an iPhone.  For me I don't see any speed difference between the two.  Can you elaborate on what you are seeing?  Is it just the doorbell cam?  Or other cameras as well?

Also,  on the Google Home app I would make sure you have the PREVIEW feature turned on.  If it isn't then you are running a really old version.  PUBLIC PREVIEW is in the Settings and you scroll to the bottom to see it and activate it.

I have 15 cameras and the Google nest app takes minutes to load the Nest app loads much more quickly. You could literally rob my house before I get a clear feed with the Google app.

Hi there!

Thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience that you’ve been experiencing with the Google Home App. I understand that you recently moved from the Nest App to the Google Home App to monitor your cameras, but it goes slower than before when you used to use the Nest App. No worries; I’m happy to help you find a solution.

Here I have a couple of questions for you:

  • What is the model of the Nest cameras that you have?
  • What is the make and model of your mobile device?
  • Is your OS version up to date?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried?

In the meantime, here are some steps that can help you:

  • Clear the cache of the Google Home App and test again.
  • If it is still happening, please clear the data of the Google Home App.
  • If you encounter the same behavior, uninstall and reinstall the Google Home App to verify that we have the last version.
  • Restart your mobile device.
  • Check your internet connection.

Please check the following articles: Update Nest products and apps for further information.

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel.
