Google Nest Camera - need assistance with WiFi extenders or Powerline adaptors

Hi all, I want to install my camera onto my garage wall to cover my driveway. It cannot connect to my current router as it is too far away. I have a devolo duo 500 adaptor in my garage that works great for my PC or other devices that are in my garage. It will not work for my camera. I need to identify a replacement extender or preferably a powerline adaptor that has been proven to work with the camera, that I can plug into my garage socket. Any help out there would be much appreciated.

Hi KnarfC,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that your Google Nest Camera is not working with the powerline adapter that works fine with your other devices. Don't worry; I'm here to help! Just to get started, I'd like to confirm some details with you. Can you please help me answer the next questions?

  • What is the exact model of your Nest Camera?
  • Is the Nest Camera already paired with the Google Home app or Nest app?
  • Are you receiving any error messages related to the WiFi connection?
  • What are your upload and download speeds in the garage where the Nest Camera is located?
  • Can the Nest Camera detect other networks?

In the meantime, if you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Hi nerys, thank you for responding. Requested info is:

Model G3AL9 IP54

Paired with Google Home app

no error messages related to WiFi, just wont connect video when in the garage but I do get audio

upload download speeds in the region of 73mb

I dont know how to find out what the camera can detect. Is there a web interface for the cameras status etc?

regards

Frank

Hi KnarfC,

Thank you for responding and providing this useful information!

I have new doubts about this situation. Can you please help me clarify the following information?

  • Is this situation occurring when viewing live video, video history, or both?
  • What color is the LED light when the device is recording?
  • Does your Nest Camera operate on a battery, or is it plugged in all day?
  • Have you tried accessing the live video through the Google Home app or website?

Regarding your question about network detection, during the setup process, it's normal for the camera to display multiple networks. There's no need to worry about checking if it can detect more at this stage.

In the meantime, if you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Hi nerys, basically, when I go to the garage with the camera, I open the google app and only get audio as there is insufficient connectivity to show video. The camera works fine when I go into my house as it has good connectivity to the router and I can get video via the google home app. I am looking for a replacement for my current Devolo 500 duo plug in line extenders as they dont seem to work with my camera when in the garage. My Devolos are pretty old so could do with an upgrade but I need to know which of the makes work with the camera ie TPLink, Netgear or newer Devolo. Regards.
