Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) didn't detect package delivery

Today I received a package on my front porch. I was alerted to the package by a USPS text message.

My new Google Nest Doorbell (Battery - fully charged) missed it completely. I combed through the logs from early morning, to the present. Every person walking by was recorded, but the package delivery was not.

To test, I went out the kitchen door with the box, and dropped it on the front steps. I received an immediate "Package" alert from the doorbell, and the camera recorded the drop properly.

Subsequent to that first package, I received a second package. This too was properly recorded, and I received an immediate alert.

Any thoughts as to what may have caused the Doorbell to miss the first delivery?

Thanks.

We've had a 2nd gen Google Nest Battery Camera for over 3 years, plugged in with the optional power cable. When we've unplugged it to test how it performs, it was very poor at detecting events that occurred right in front of the camera. That's because, when running on battery power, the camera is normally in "Idle" mode and has to wake up before it can record an event.  But when plugged in, it is good at detecting events during the day; at night it's not quite so good.

The 2nd gen Google Nest Battery Doorbell always runs on battery power, even when it is plugged in (which only trickle-charges the battery continuously).
