So I got a 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell (wired) and followed the instructions in the walkthrough. After that didn't work, I completely ignored the instructions and watched a guy on Youtube connect the two wires to his existing chime, so I copied him and the doorbell started right up. So I went into the HOME app, and set up the doorbell and everything works well. Then I went to the NEST app and started the setup process. It wants the 6 Digit code from the back, OK, walks you through the unnecessarily complicated install instructions that don't work anyhow and finally gets to setup. Everything goes fine here until it says "Select the last 4 numbers from your units serial number. It may take awhile to show up on the list.." so I wait and I wait and I wait and nothing ever happens. I can't control other nest devices unless I exit out of this process and start over again. This repeats and repeats. So how do I get it setup in the NEST app? or bypass this serial number step? Can I enter it manually somehow?

The 2nd Gen Google Nest Doorbell ONLY gets installed in the Google Home app; it CANNOT be installed in the Google Nest app.
Google Nest cameras and doorbells that are originally installed in the Google Nest app are administered in and get their notifications from the Google Nest app.
Google Nest cameras and doorbells that are originally installed in the Google Home app are administered in and get their notifications from the Google Home app.
That is Google Nest's chosen 2-app solution. Because we have 2 of the newer cameras, notifications for those come in the Google Home app, while notifications for our remaining cameras and doorbells come from the Google Nest app.
19 months ago, Google Nest's VP offered this explanation:
19 months later, we are still using 2 apps.

OK, so basically it can't be done. Thanks for saving me a lot of time fiddling with it.

It can't be done. You cannot install the newer Google Nest cameras and doorbells (those released starting in Sept. 2021) in the Google Nest app.

Thanks. I learned I cant use the Doorbell through the nest app so I will just use two apps to control my devices. If that changes, please let me know. Thank you.

According to this Google Nest announcement from yesterday, "Public Preview users of the Home app will be able to begin transferring some of our original Nest cameras to the new camera experience in the Home app, starting with first generation Nest Cam Indoor and followed by Nest Cam Outdoor."
They don't mention when the Nest Hello Doorbells (we have 3) will begin moving to the Google Home app.

Jenelyn,
Yes, thank you. It looks like I will not be able to use the doorbell in the Nest App. In turn, it looks like everything will eventually migrate to the HOME app. So I just need to use both depending on the device for now. Not much else I can do at the moment.
