Google Nest Gen 2 IR is GARBAGE, mine haven't switched to night vision automatically since I purchased it...and yes it's set to default, yes it's black as night at my front door, etc. I have to wave my hand over the IR leds at night for it to come on....this is garbage!!!!

That shouldn't be happening. We have had a 2nd gen battery camera for 22 months, plugged in with the optional power cable, and night vision works just fine.

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. If your Nest Camera doesn’t automatically switch to or from Night Vision when the light conditions change, give the steps below a try:
2. Check that the outdoor lights don’t shine into your Nest Camera lens. In some cases, bright lights can delay or prevent your Nest Camera from switching to Night Vision.
3. Reset Night Vision settings or restart your Nest Camera.
