Google Nest - Push Notifications have stopped

AndreaParris

My Nest Camera (wired) has suddenly stopped sending my iPhone and iWatch notifications. No notifications when the doorbell rings, none when it notices a person at the door, none when a package is left. The camera works, it records when there is movement but I’m not receiving any notifications. It’s very frustrating. I just bought the doorbell only 3-4 months ago.

Its been a week now. have tried troubleshooting the issue: I’ve turned on and off my iPhone; I’ve closed the app and have reopened it; I think I have the latest version of the Nest app; I’ve done a factory reset of the doorbell; I’ve signed out and back in to my Google Account. I have updated to iOS17 in the hopes that that would work, but unfortunately not.

What else can I try to fix the problem?

Hi AndreaParris,

Thanks for reaching out to us, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. I want to check if you are still in need of any help. If so, please answer the following:

  1. Do you only receive notifications on one device?
  2. Were there any changes to the Wi-Fi network?
  3. Are there other family members who can access the camera? Do they receive any notifications?
  4. Has the camera been moved recently?
  5. Are there any Activity Zones set up for the camera?

i'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

Hi,

Yes, I still need help with this issue. Thank you for replying and for your help.
1. Both my husband and I receive notifications to each of our phones. I have an iPhone11 running on the new iOS17. Whereas he has a Samsung. I also would get notifications to my iWatch.
2. We did change our Wi-Fi about 2 months ago. But the Nest was running perfectly fine after we connected it to the new WiFi.
3. Both my husband and I have access to the Nest Doorbell Camera and we both would get notifications.
4. No the camera has not been moved.
5. No there are no activity zones set up for the camera other than it being at the front door.

Please help. Thanks.

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us. Since you can't receive any event notifications for your Nest Thermostat, please follow these steps:

  1. Open the Nest app.
  2. Select the footage that contains the event.
    • Select the timeframe where the event is expected.
    • Check the event history. To switch view from the sightline view to the event history view, on the right below the video feed, tap Event history.
    • To switch from sightline view to the event history view, tap Event history.
      • If the clip you expect in your video history appears, proceed to the next step. Otherwise, the issue isn’t about notifications. The event itself does not appear in the app. Which can be caused by any of the following:
      • The camera is turned off or doesn’t have power.
      • The camera is offline.
      • The event the customer expects came up as an undetected event.
  3. Check the app permission on the mobile device.
    • For Android users, go to System settings > Sounds and notification > App notifications > Nest or Google Home and follow these configurations:
      • Block all is disabled.
      • Allow peeking is enabled.
    • For iOS users, go to Settings > Notifications > Nest or Google Home and follow these configurations:
      • Allow notifications is enabled.
      • You disable any or all notification options.

To verify if this matter is fixed, go within the camera's line of sight and if you still doesn't receive notifications, follow these:

  1. Log out of the mobile app on all devices.
  2. Log in to the web app on one device.
  3. Uncheck all notifications.
  4. Log out of the web app.
  5. Open the Nest or Google Home app.
  6. Log back into the Nest Account.
  7. Select all desired notifications.
  8. Go within the camera's line of sight to test the notification.
  9. If it still doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall the Home or Nest app on their mobile device > re-configure notifications > test again.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Zoe
