Hello,
I would like to raise a concern regarding repairability and sustainability of Google Nest devices.
Google has publicly expressed support for the Right to Repair movement, including statements that users should have access to parts, tools, and documentation required to repair their devices. However, in practice, this does not seem to apply to Google Nest products.
I am currently dealing with a failed Nest camera that cannot be repaired due to:
- lack of access to official spare parts
- no official repair documentation
- no authorized repair channels for individual components
This creates a situation where otherwise repairable devices must be discarded, which directly contradicts sustainability goals and contributes to unnecessary electronic waste.
For comparison, Google has made significant progress in repairability for Pixel devices (e.g. cooperation with iFixit and availability of parts), but similar support is missing for Nest hardware.
From a consumer and environmental perspective, I would like to ask:
1. Are there any plans to provide official spare parts for Google Nest devices?
2. Will Google expand its Right to Repair implementation beyond Pixel products?
3. Can Google provide repair documentation or guidance for out-of-warranty Nest devices?
As a user who values both the Google ecosystem and sustainable practices, I believe enabling repair instead of replacement should be a priority.
Thank you.
