Google nest camera outdoor won't charge

RogMorg

I have two google nest outdoor cameras on battery.  They both ran dead while I was away, and now neither will charge.  I have the cord seated properly in the charger, and the settings are set to Magnetic.

You've probably done this, but--as the owner of a battery camera--it's all I can think of. Is your charging cord plugged in tightly, with the cord feeding towards the FRONT of the camera? Also, since you're running on battery power normally, I think the camera has to be dismounted in order to charge.

Did all that.  Thanks for your response.  I now have one charging...the light turned on in about 15 minutes.  Maybe when totally discharged, it takes a while for the charging light to turn on.

Hi RogMorg,

Thanks for posting in our Community. I’m sorry you’re having issues with the Nest camera. Let’s check it out.

If the issue persists, to completely isolate the battery issue, factory reset the device. Follow the steps below:

  1. Save any video history on the device, if any. Follow this guide.
  2. Unmount the device and then connect it to the USB cable and power adapter.
  3. Locate the reset pinhole on the back of the camera.
  4. Insert and hold the pin (you can use an unfolded paper clip or a thumbtack).
    1. At 10 seconds, the status light will blink yellow four times, and you’ll hear a countdown tone.
    2. At 12 seconds, the status light will be steady, solid yellow while the camera starts the factory reset, and you’ll hear a confirmation tone.
  5. Release the button. Your doorbell will return to its factory settings.
  6. After the factory reset, your camera will appear as "Offline" in the app until you remove it.
  7. To remove it from the app, open the app, then tap Settings > Remove device>  Confirm.
  8. Make sure the phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as the selected network for the Nest device.
  9. Bluetooth should be enabled, but it should not be connected to any Bluetooth devices. Disconnect any Bluetooth devices paired to your phone, such as earbuds, smartwatches, etc.
  10. Cellular data should be turned off.
  11. If you have an iOS device, tap Settings > Privacy > Local Network and turn on Local Network Access for the Google Home app.
  12. Start adding the device back to the Google Home app.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for chiming in, MplsCustomer.

Best,

Lance

Hello, Emerson.  I want to report that the devices started to charge and show the charging light on after about 15 minutes.  I suppose when the battery is completely drained, it takes a while for the charging light to come on.  Thanks for your assistance!
