Google nest door bell trouble after factory reset

Shermaneric

hi there,

I know this question has been asked in different ways. Here’s the crux of my situation:

I have had a Google nest wired doorbell working for over a year I recently had to do a factory reset of my Google Wi-Fi. All of my devices reset fine except for my Google wired doorbell.  (Model: best doorbell (wired))

I go through the steps on Google home, and when Adding a device, it fails upon trying to connect to said device.   Adding the device in the nest app works flawlessly. I’ve tried rebooting my Google wifi main access point and router several times to no avail.

What gives?  My only last thought is to remove the nest doorbell temporarily And plug the micro usb into an outlet close to the Google wifi router.

I’m not sure if I’m on the right track or if I’m missing something.

Tangentially, is it possible to use works with Google to add the near router? I attempted this but it prompts for a login.  I don’t have a nest login - only a Google one.

thanks in advance!

eric

@Shermaneric

It sounds like you tried to add your Google Nest Hello Doorbell (the older wired doorbell) in the Google Home app. The Google Nest Hello Doorbell can only be added in the Google Nest app, and once you add it there, it should automatically appear in the Google Home app, provided that you're logging onto both apps with the same Google account and accessing the same Google Nest "home".

Our Google Nest Hello Doorbells are fully functional in the Google Nest app (history, settings, and notifications) but can also be seen in the Google Home app.  It's part of Google Nest's year-old 2-app solution (which, given posts in the last few days, may soon be changing).

Hello everyone,

@Shermaneric I know how it feels when you can't set up a device to your Google Home App. Our team is working hard to deliver the best experience for our users. However, for the Nest doorbell (wired) you can only set it up with the Nest App. When you open the Nest App you'll have two options to sign in. Please select the "Sign in with Google" option and enter the same email address you use to your Google Home App.

Looking forward to your reply.

@MplsCustomer I appreciate your response.

Thanks,
Emerson

Thank you @MplsCustomer and @EmersonB forcyour quick responses!

i am indeed signed into both the nest app and Google home with the same email - #.  Reopening the Google home app I do not see the door bell appear automatically as it sounds like I should

let me know if I am missing something

thanks!

Sorry.  My email is # thanks!

Hmm @EmersonB it  appears if I choose works with Google -> nest -> sign in.  The web view gives me no option to sign in with Google

Hi @EmersonB .  Right.  Thanks for the info!  Tried your suggestions. still no luck unfortunately.

@Shermaneric

Do you have more than one Google Nest "home" at the top of your screen in either the Google Nest app or the Google Home app?  You need to be using the same "home/structure" in both apps.

If you go to home.nest.com, can you see your Google Nest Hello Doorbell?  Can you see your Google Nest Hello Doorbell in the Google Nest app?  (You should.)

You could try signing of of the Google Nest app and then signing back on, making sure you select "Sign in with Google".  That might trigger a refresh for the Google Home app.

Oh, and don't include your email in a public forum like this.

hello @MplsCustomer  thank you again for the great tips!

I’ve reinstalled both Google home and Google nest apps.  I’ve verified the same email address and same home.  No other emails are signed on.

alas, when launching Google  home there is no doorbell  .  Using “works with Google” -> nest -> gives me that web view with no option to use my Google account .  Reopening Google home yields no doorbell.

I’m somewhat at a loss .  Thanks in advance for any other ideas!

best

eric

@Shermaneric

I'm out of ideas (I'm just another customer), except to point out this has happened to others, with no resolution posted; I wonder if it resolves itself eventually:

No worries. Thanks for your help @MplsCustomer !

Ok I got this working!

since I was signed into nest and Google home using the same Google account, the only thing o needed to do was to say to my Google assistant (Wi-Fi point) “hey Google, sync my devices”.  It then added the doorbell in the Google home app.

for good measure I also toggled off and on again visitor announcements in the nest app for my doorbell and voila, all is working again

thanks everybody you can close this thread Google folks.
