Home vs Nest Google devices not what they used to be

Now that Google has moved to Google Home the devices are not what they used to be.  First if you upgrade any Google Nest Camera they no longer work in Nest.  So now you have old cameras in Nest and New in Google Home.  The biggest problem is Google Home can NOT be accessed by a regular computer only mobile device.  So if you are used to monitoring your home via a normal computer monitor you are screwed.  Why would they remove that option?  Google Home is half baked and has been for many years.

Then you have the doorbell which doesn't integrate well.  Also, only uses Google Home, so now you have separate apps again.  But also the announcements don't work.  I've spent countless hours with Google Support and they are basically useless.  100s of posted on the Internet about the same thing and no one getting it to work.

Sad to say but after spending 1000s on Google cameras and devices its probably time to switch to something that actually works.

@prw9913

We can view the livestream from all our cameras--old and new--on the "preview" home.google.com website. But that new website has been in "preview"/beta mode for over 4 months and we can't view history or administer our cameras, as we can on the home.nest.com website.

It has been an ongoing nuisance for the last 18 months to have to use 2 apps to administer our Google Nest cameras because one of them is the Google Nest Camera (Battery).

We're still using our 3 Google Nest Hello Doorbells, so we don't have any experience with integrating the battery doorbell.

Hi there,

Thank you for your feedback on this, you can now use the Google Home web app to view your cameras and doorbells. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience and support.

Best regards,

Brad

The cameras via the browser is nice.  But I still can't use Doorbell announcements via my Google Nest speakers/hub.  I've gone over all the How Tos, Google Support, etc.  Nothing works

Hey prw9913,

We appreciate all your efforts here. Let’s check this out. Are your cameras, doorbell and speakers/display paired in the same home structure in the Google Home app? When did the issue start? Also, make sure Do Not Disturb is off.

Give these steps a try:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account.
  3. Verify that the home listed is the one you want to pair your security camera to. To switch between homes, click the triangle to the right of the home name.
  4. At the top left, tap Add > Set up device plus > Works with Google.
  5. Choose your camera manufacturer from the list to finish the setup process.

Let us know how it goes.

I appreciate the help here, MplsCustomer and Brad.

Thanks,

JT

Yes, these are the same steps I have gone over several times via the online documentation and also with Google Support.

All the devices are under the same Google Account.  The devices have been added/removed several times.  Battery Google Nest Doorbell, Google Nest Hub and several Google Nest Mini's.

Also, verified Notifications and Announcements is "ENABLED"
