How long are event-based clips?

How does Event-based recordings work? If theres an event happening in front of the camera, how long does the camera record the event?  If the event is 30 minutes, does the camera record for 30 minutes?

If not, then does the camera take multiple recordings of the same ongoing event? Does the camera "take breaks" between recording clips of the same ongoing event?

Thank you

Hi laisanity2000,

Thanks for reaching out. Good question! Nest Aware algorithms use motion pattern, shape, and texture recognition of what moves so that your camera can do the following:

  • Notice small things and things that are far away, like when a kitten runs across the other side of a large room.
  • Detect fast things, like when someone runs past a doorway or window.
  • Reduce false alerts. For example, you probably won’t get a notification if your camera detects tree branches that sway in the wind.
  • Look for certain kinds of activity and send an alert. For example, when your camera detects someone who walks into its view, it can send a person alert. Some Nest cameras can even detect familiar faces.

For the example you shared. It doesn’t record the continuous 30 minutes when it detects an activity. It records the events based on the type of activity (person, motion, sound, vehicle, package etc) it sorts the kind of activity your camera has detected.

I hope that answers your questions.

Thanks,

JT
