How to add a doorbell to a home with the same name as the home I set up on my old phone

The situation is as the subject describes. I am not sure if there should theoretically be any problem if you add a nest doorbell camera to a new home you set up from your same google profile!

As I recall, the first time I scanned the QR code to add this same doorbell to my home with the same name as I had set up on an old phone, google seemed to recognize the QR code and block me from adding it to this new home. Now, it asks me to plug the doorbell into a usb charger cable and it scans to try to find it, but cannot.

I also realized I had added the same doorbell to a home I set up elsewhere (where I took the doorbell). I went ahead and deleted it from that home. But it doesn't make a difference. Setup just asks me to plug in the doorbell to a USB charger, searches for it, but cannot find. I am sitting right next to the doorbell.

It is not at all clear from your post what you are trying to do.

If you are trying to access your 2nd gen battery doorbell from a new phone, you do NOT install it again in the Google Home app. Rather, you simply log into the Google Home app on your new phone using the same Google Account you were using on your old phone, and you access the same Google Nest "home/structure" you were accessing on your old phone.

If I can't see the doorbell in any home under my only Google account, then how can I get it to install?

@krouse

Something else may going on in your situation that does not seem to be apparent from what you've posted. I'm not sure why you have multiple Google Nest "homes" and I don't know what you mean by having added your son's account on the new phone.

Perhaps you should consider contacting Support, where you can have a conversation on what's going on:

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

Okay, thanks a lot. Another thing I think I may have done is installed that doorbell onto my wife's phone in her own Google home and it is still there. But I need to figure out how to get it back into my home. I have more than one home because I have created homes in other houses where I stay. I will contact support.

@krouse

You cannot install a Google Nest device in more than one Google Nest "home/structure" on different Google Accounts. If your doorbell is installed in a Google Nest "home/structure" on your wife's Google Account, you cannot get it back into a Google Nest "home/structure" on your Google Account without deleting it, factory resetting it, and reinstalling it.

If you want to share access to your doorbell, one of you needs to invite the other person into your Google Nest "home" (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9155535).

Then that must be what I did, invited her (and another person as well) to my own home. We use that camera to monitor my son's room who has special needs. So I had to share that with them

@krouse

Then for sure call Support to sort things out. If your wife can see the doorbell in the Google Nest "home/structure" on YOUR Google Account on HER phone as a member of your Google Nest "home", then you SHOULD also be able to see the same doorbell in the same Google Nest "home/structure" on your Google Account on your phone.

When I accessed Google home on the new phone, that previous home was no longer there. I may have deleted it. In any case, I recreated the same home with the same name. But that second gen doorbell is not there; nothing was there in fact.

@krouse

The most likely reason for not finding your Google Nest "home/structure" when logging into the Google Home app on a new phone is that you are inadvertently logging into the Google Home app with a different Google Account than the one you were using on your old phone. That would also explain why you are not able to install your doorbell in your newly created Google Nest "home/structure", as the doorbell would still be installed in the Google Nest "home/structure" on your original Google Account.

I only have one Google account. Sometime after installing Google home on the new phone I did add my son's account but that is not the account I am looking at in Home. What should I do, delete the home app and log into it again and then see what appears in my Google home?

@krouse

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you added your son's account on the new phone.

In the Google Home app, if you click on your profile icon in the upper right corner, does it show your Google Account?

I suppose you could delete the Google Home app from your phone, reinstall it, and log back in to see what happens.  You don't lose any settings when deleting and reinstalling the Google Home app.

It does seem very odd for a Google Nest "home/structure" to simply disappear on its own for no reason.
