How to shut down Nest Cam Battery

I have two Nest Cam Battery cameras that I will not be using for a while. What is the correct way to shut them down so that they don't keep using the battery? I want it so that the next time they are connected to power that they start up, like when taken out of the box for the first time. The instructions for Factory Reset seem to suggest that they'll reboot and still be powered on.

Turning off the camera isn't the issue - I can do that from the app. But on the Battery cam, the cam stays alive, listening for WiFi commands. It does seem, though, that after some undetermined time of the camera being off and the power disconnected, that the cam does shut down. When I took one and reapplied power, it went through its startup sound and was still connected to my account.

Hi there,

I apologize for my late response and thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I can definitely understand how frustrating your situation must be, but I wanted to make sure that your issue was addressed. Note: If you have more than one camera, you can also switch each of your cameras on or off in the same place in the app.

  1. Open the Home app Google Home app.
  2. On the home screen, select your camera to view its live video stream.
Note: If your camera is battery powered, the battery status screen will appear first. Tap Live video to go live.
  3. On the live view screen, tap More options 3 dot menu icon.
  4. Select Turn on camera or Turn off camera.

Note: If your camera is already turned off, you’ll also find Turn on camera  near the bottom of the live view screen.

This should allow you to turn off the camera, and then unplug it and see if that does the trick. It will not be like it was when you first opened the box, but it could work for you next time you want to use them. If not, you would just plug them in and charge them before use.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad.
