How to update outdoor Google Nest camera after a WiFi change?

osbdestiny

Hi! I am trying to figure out how to update the wifi on my outdoor Google Nest camera without getting up on a ladder. We ran into internet issues and ended up renaming the network so everything needs to be reconnected.

I updated my Google Nest doorbell by going through "Wi-Fi Connection" and scanning its QR code. However, after scanning it, it gave me a message that the device was already on my account and to go through settings to update the WiFi... so I went back to settings and was able to modify the WiFi by the app detecting that I was near the device (this was only available after scanning the QR code?). This makes me think I should be able to do this with my outdoor camera too but it keeps requesting the QR code which I would like to avoid so I don't have to get on a ladder. I almost feel like what happened with the camera was a fluke?

Most of what I'm finding online is indicating I have to remove the device and re-add it which makes me lose my history, but I didn't lose my history on my doorbell camera so I'd like to save the history if I can.

Any assistance is appreciated!

@osbdestiny

Google Nest does not make it easy to change Wi-Fi settings on Google Nest devices. Their process generally requires removing the Google Nest device from the Google Nest app or Google Home app while still on the old Wi-Fi network, then doing a factory reset, and then re-installing the device while on the new Wi-Fi network.

Years ago, we got into the habit of writing down the 6-character Setup Code for all of our Google Nest cameras and doorbells, so we wouldn't have to try to rescan a QR code on the curved back of a camera while standing on a ladder.

Hey folks,

I just wanted to follow up to see if you still need our help. Please let us know as we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

I appreciate the help here, MplsCustomer and Emerson.

Same issue here. Last year I spent $700 to buy a Nest Cam Floodlight and have it installed. Unfortunately, another year goes by and Google does nothing to improve the Home App or the Nest Cam Floodlight (which does not work with the Nest app either). This is the end of my experiment with Google products. They are a disgrace.

Hello everyone,

@osbdestiny thanks for reaching out here in the Community. I understand your concern about updating the Wi-Fi information of your Nest Camera. The only way to update is to use the Nest app. Go to settings> home info> home Wi-Fi help> update> start> update the Wi-Fi information. In case these steps don't work, you need to remove it from your Nest app> reset the actual device to the factory default then re-add it.

@Fogtownjohn I know where you're coming from. However, we don't have any news to share about applying this feature to the Google Home app. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I'd suggest you send feedback about your concern using this form to let the Google Engineering team know about your concern. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about this.

Let us know if you have more questions.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Regards,

Emerson

Thanks, but I believe the Nest App does not work for the Google Nest Outdoor Camera and Floodlight.
