I am Beyond Frustrated

ZIMI13

I recently had a ton of products installed. ADT security system, 6 Google Nest cameras, 3 Google Nest thermostats, 3 TVs with Google, and a Google Nest doorbell.

I updated my router and wifi password to be more secure. I was able to connect the TVs easily. Everything else has been a nightmare!

I had to factory reset and reinstall each thermostat. I can't get the doorbell to reconnect. I don't have a ladder tall enough to get to a couple of the external cameras, so I have no way of even handling those myself based on all I have read so far.

Updating wifi passwords is a basic security practice. Are you telling me every time I do it I will need a professional to completely re-install every piece of hardware? Because that is ridiculous. I must be doing something wrong, right?

The truth is that changing Wi-Fi settings for Google Nest products is not easy.

For older Nest cameras and doorbells, Wi-Fi settings can still be updated from within the Google Nest app over Bluetooth. For all other Google Nest devices it seems to be a mixed bag.

I think that's why, for cameras and doorbells, Google Nest's first recommendation is this: "The simplest fix for most Nest products is to update your home network so that the network name (SSID) and password are the same as before." (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9223711?hl=en#zippy=%2Ctry-the-same-network-name-and-pa...) That's what we were able to do when we got a new router/modem (because we already had our own SSID name and a complicated password), and we didn't have to update cameras, doorbells, Nest Hubs, or Nest Minis.

If you can't do that, unfortunately, there are the rest of the above instructions for cameras and doorbells, these instructions for speakers and displays: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7170507?hl=en, these instructions for thermostats: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7170507?hl=en, and this group of instructions for Google Nest devices in general: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10165378?hl=en.

I'm just another Google Nest customer, so sorry if this is not the answer you were hoping for.

Hello folks,

@ZIMI13 that certainly hasn’t been easy for you. You can try to update the Wifi connection from the settings of Nest App. If the issue persists, you'll need to remove them from the App, reset them to the factory default and re-add to the App.

Try these steps:

In the Nest app, you can usually update Wi-Fi information over Bluetooth.

Go to the same room as your camera, and turn on your phone’s Bluetooth, then follow the steps below.

  • On the Nest app home screen, tap Settings Nest settings icon.
  • Select Home info then Home Wi-Fi help.
  • Note: If you don’t find Home Wi-Fi help, you’ll need to remove your camera from the app and add it back with new Wi-Fi information. You’ll lose your video history so make sure to save any important video clips before removing your camera.
  • Select the camera you want to update.
  • Tap Start and then Update settings.

Follow the on-screen instructions. Scan the QR code on the back of your camera when prompted.

Hit this link for the steps.

@MplsCustomer thanks for the information.

Regards,

Emerson
