I am having issues with a possible stalker, this person keep riding past my house (I know them) but I cannot reafd their number plate, can I improve the focus of my camera or the video taken by it. I have it as close to the road as I can.

I’m appalled that nobody from Google has responded to this customer with a very serious concern.

Hello everyone,

@parkview, thanks for posting here in the Community. Nest cameras offer an option to improve the video quality. Have you adjusted the video quality settings on your Nest camera? Here is a link on how change Nest camera or doorbell video quality.

Let me know if that helps.

Best,
Edmond

Hi folks,

Thanks for chiming in, @EdmondB and @RavenManiac

@parkview, if you are experiencing issues with the focus of your camera and need to improve the clarity of the video, try these (skip the ones you already did):

  1. Over time, dust, dirt, or smudges can accumulate on the camera lens, affecting the image quality. Take a soft, lint-free cloth and gently clean the lens to remove any dirt or smudges that may be obstructing the focus.
  2. Experiment with adjusting the angle and position of the camera to get a clearer view of the area you want to monitor. Make sure the camera is positioned at a suitable height and angle to capture the desired area, including the road and any passing vehicles.
  3. Some cameras have manual focus options that allow you to adjust the focus manually. Check the camera's settings or user manual to see if there are any focus-related options available. If manual focus is available, you can try adjusting it to achieve sharper focus on the road and license plates.
  4. Insufficient lighting can also impact the clarity of the captured video. Ensure that the area you want to monitor is adequately lit, especially during nighttime. You may consider adding additional lighting, such as motion-activated lights or dedicated outdoor lighting, to improve visibility.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Zoe
