I cannot hear the person at the door

I have first generation google nest video doorbell. On google home app, or the nest app, I can talk and the person at the door can hear me. But I cannot hear them when they speak. I think this doorbell is supposed to be two-way audio, right? 

I saw an earlier thread on this and checked my settings (mic on, volume on, permissions are all on). Still no help. How can I fix this? The doorbell works well otherwise in terms of chime and video.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and for mentioning all the steps you have taken to try and fix the issue. I’m sorry that you’re having trouble with this. Let’s check it out.

 

A few questions: did this issue occur out of the box? Does it happen on multiple mobile devices or cameras? Has the device suffered any drops or impacts?

Also, is the doorbell in a case or housing?

 

Please follow the troubleshooting steps below:

 

  1. Check for any iOS updates and install them if there are any.
  2. Uninstall the Nest app, then restart the mobile device.
  3. Install the Nest app from the Apple App Store.
  4. Go to the device’s Settings > Nest > Permission, and make sure Microphone is enabled.
  5. Disconnect any Bluetooth devices paired to your phone (if any), such as earbuds, smartwatches, etc.
  6. Test if you can now hear the other person on your phone.
