LOUD BUZZING NOISE. UNKNOWN. HELP

Hi I’ve been using nest doorbell for the last 3 years and everything has been working fine. However lately I’ve noticed a strange buzzing noise that is unbearable whenever I click on view live. I am away at the moment and have no idea what’s wrong. The camera seems to be working fine. However there is this constant buzzing noise. Unsure if it’s just the camera itself or if other people can hear the buzz if they are close by?!. I’ve tried turning on and off the camera but that has not worked. Help as this is urgent.

UPDATE: thanks for helping everyone. Basically I ended up getting someone to turn the doorbell on and off from the plug and it seems to fix the issue. There is no buzzing noise anymore. Hopefully it stays like that. Wanted to post this update incase anyone else has a similar issue. So it’s best to just turn the doorbell on and off from the plug/switch. 🙂

You could try contacting Support using the instructions and link in this post:

You may want someone to check your doorbell on sight, to find out whether the doorbell itself is constantly emitting this loud buzzing sound and malfunctioning in some way.

Which doorbell do you actually have?  The 2nd Gen Google Nest Doorbell has only been out for 2 yearss.

Hi there, yeah I have someone coming to the house to see how if there’s any noise etc. and I’ve also contacted customer care like you advised. I got an automated message saying they will try to get back 1-2 business days hopefully will hear back by tomorrow as it’s a Monday thanks for the comment back hopefully it’s a simple on-and-off 🙂

Also I’m not sure which doorbell it is… we got it installed July 2021 and apparently that was the latest one then?? So maybe gen1?

@fazz

The 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell came out in Oct. 2022, so yours must be the Google Nest Hello Doorbell.

Hello fazz,

Thanks for visiting the Nest Community.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with the Nest doorbell. Let’s check it out.

A few questions: are you using the Google Home app or Nest app to view the live video? Can you also hear the buzzing sound when you check the live view on the website? Have you had a chance to get in touch with the support team? If yes, how did it go?

If you haven’t done so already, please try the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Check if the buzzing sound is also audible on the website. For Nest device setup in the Nest app, go to https://goo.gle/2qjvVSU, while for devices in the Home app, visit https://goo.gle/2UZL8VI.
  2. If you’re using the Home app, tap the doorbell or camera > Settings > Audio and toggle the microphone off, then back on.
  3. Under "Camera volume," drag the slider left or right to decrease or increase the volume of your camera and check if the issue is resolved.
  4. If you’re using the Nest app, tap the doorbell or camera settings and set the microphone off, then back on.
  5. Tap microphone sensitivity, then drag the slider to change the mic setting.
  6. Adjust the slider left and right until the buzzing sound goes away.

Here’s a handy guide on how to change Nest camera and doorbell audio settings.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for chiming in, MplsCustomer.

Best,

Lance

Mine was doing the same thing. I turned the doorbell and transformer off at the breaker box. When I flipped the breaker back on, the camera rebooted and the buzz was gone. No buzz for about a month so far.
