I can automatically turn our cameras on and off using the away from home functionality. This works just fine based on phone location.
However, I also want the cameras to turn on in the evening and then turn off in the morning and obviously I want to automate this. This means our devices will be in the house, so the away routine does not work. I simply want to put it on a schedule, which is MUCHHHH simpler than device locations.
I tried to setup a bedtime routine, but those cannot operate my cameras. These routines can actually turn on my outside light that is part of the camera, but it cannot turn on the camera itself, which is very strange to me. Also, this used to be a functionality in the nest app, from what I could find online, but it was removed from the home app.
Honestly, I find it very strange and disappointing that such a basic functionality is not part of the home app. As long as I cannot automate my Google devices, this app simply is not good enough. Are there any plans to add automation support? I would even like to use external triggers such as weather or sunrise APIs, which is pretty common in simple systems like ITTT, but Google cannot do it. To me this is quite silly and perhaps even unacceptable.

The google home app is not fit for purpose plain and simple. I've seen requests for this function on multiple sites dating back to the 2nd generation cameras release date. Still no action from google i doubt it'll happen. Google engineers aren't the sharpest tools in the shed these days or at least that is how it seems with multiple ongoing faults and issues occurring ocross the board.

Can we please get this feature added?
Is there any plans to have this in the future. Because it is a necessity for security cameras. I want my camera on when I'm sleeping.. that's their purpose.

That's awesome, thanks for pointing that out! New function in the home update I think, because I don't think I used to be able to do that. Lovely!

Hi folks,
Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay. I know it's been a while now. I'm glad that you were able to use routines to set up your schedule in the Google Home app. Please feel free to ask if you still have questions in mind, as I'll be locking this thread after 24 hours.
@AustinO, I appreciate you sharing the information.
Best,
Jenelyn
