Long delay on Doorbell battery motion notifications

Vicky100

Hi

My Google doorbell battery was excellent at first notifications came within seconds.

I'm still getting quick notifications if the button in pressed. But now it can take 20 secs to 2 minutes to alert to motion, unlike before it was around 6-8 seconds. Pressing the button around 3-4 seconds.

Nothing has changed, my Wi-Fi has got even more bandwidth now than before and is in same place.

I have an S10e phone Android 12.  Is anyone else having this problem with motion detection alerts taking up to 2 minutes when before less than 10 seconds. This has only happened in last week or so.

Why has the motion alerts taking so long suddenly. I even tried putting it on highest sensitivity but no change yet pressing the button works quick and fine.

What do I do? is the motion detection broken or something or do I try a factory  reset? is the motion detection broken?

Thanks

Update. Did a full reset. Removed off home app and re set etc... It seems to work quicker now more like around 8-10 seconds after detecting motion.  Don't know why it suddenly was very long delay on motion.  My friends Ring is a lot quicker and she has not very good wifi. Google need to really sort it out. Still waiting for the proper home app on windows! But have lost last 30 days history through this.  I will keep an eye on it to see if it does it again.  Shouldn't have had to do full factory reset though.  My rooter btw is next to my door too with 250 mbps. Must be poor detection delay in this product.   What a shame as the doorbell from that is very good apart from motion detection alerts are very slow compared to Ring.

I hope this is going to be a regular issue.

Same issue with my wired nest camera. Sometimes ~10min delays from motion to notification. I really don't want to lose my last 30days of video resetting my nest app.

Mine has done the same, was pretty instant is now very much in the range of  20-30 seconds lagged on notifications. My WiFi and internet speeds are excellent, and it used to work much faster 3 months ago.

I have had this same issue; I had even communicated with Nest support, and they issued me a new device after all their troubleshooting suggestions failed. I have set up a new home network, changed routers, uninstalled apps, set up on a friends Wi-Fi, factory reset, tried on a brand-new device. All the same outcome, outrageously delayed notifications. It has to be a server-side issue from Google. There is no other explanation.

Hate to see Nest products devolving and failing before us when you consider the amount of money required to invest in an ecosystem such as this. If this isn't sorted, I will be forced to regretfully step away from the smart home scene. Tired of wasting my money on products that either aren't built to last, or just get buggier and buggier by the week.

Hi folks,

@Vicky100, I’m glad that everything has been sorted out, and I appreciate the gesture.

@Davedela, @G_doorbell_sux, and @hughesyy94, a few questions: Is it happening with constant notification delays or intermittent notification delays? Also, have they checked the notification settings in the Nest app to ensure the expectations are correct?

Best,

Zoe

My Nest camera notifications are delayed 80-90% of the time. Sometimes the notification is timely (within a minute or so). Strangely, my Nest doorbell camera notifications are almost always timely. Same household, same network.   Nest app notification settings are correct. Thanks!

There is a delay with everything. I have done all the troubleshooting under the sun through weeks long conversations with Google support. They told me that there isn't a known issue with the system but 1000's of people are having the same experience as discussed here, and several Reddit threads. I, like the others have all the correct settings. Tired of losing out because Google can't deliver a service without half arsing it

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting in our Community. I genuinely understand the inconvenience you have faced. We appreciate your reports here in the Community.

Let's try these troubleshooting steps below (try to trigger a notification to test after each step):

  1. Connect the mobile device to another Wi-Fi or cellular network.
  2. Sign in to your account on another mobile device.
  3. Connect the Nest device to a different network.

Let me know how it goes.

I appreciate the help, Zoe.

Regards,

Lance

Hi there,

I just wanted to follow up if you were able to try the steps provided. Please let us know, as we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks,

Juni

Its not a network issue. The connection is a symmetric 100mbs fiber, the wifi is gigabit.  All devices are on the same wifi and have strong signal. It's a software issue - if you need better networking than that you are doing something wrong.  FWIW I run sms notifications from the same location for other services, it takes less than a second to receive for the low priority messaging. Google notifications on the other hand turn up after the person has left, quite often only starting the recording after they are leaving the door.

I have tried all of these steps and more. I have tried everything Google suggested, tried new phones, networks, tablets, even a new doorbell. Same issue every time. So there is either a server side issue, or something associated with my account that delays my notifications.

It's too late now anyway. I traded in my Google devices and bought an Amazon Ring. If I'm going to sell my soul to a devil, I'd at least want to do it with a devil who has working products.

HI,

The Home apps updated BTW after all the time it didn't work properly with Samsung yet iPhones work better on Google products???  The Nest app I've never had as Doorbell battery doesn't work on that and I believe Nest app i being phased out.

The  new Home app is more complicated now and clunky or clumsy. It took me ages to find how to download a clip and now a strange thin line appears at bottom and I open the app and automatically puts on live wasting battery.  The history easy access is not so easy nor finding things. Who at Google is paid to do this with no common sense or intuitive.  Someone gets paid so much for this and doesn't fix the real problems like delays, windows app etc... as above.  I wish I had never gone into this eco system.

I will seriously go to Ring at some point in future - who seem to be more user friendly, easy to use and feature packed.

Google you are really sinking down to the bottom of silicone valley.

Not happy !
