Lost in Migration

After the zillionth prompt we said yes to migrating a first generation Nest camera from the Nest app to Google Home. The migration failed, and now we can no longer log into the Nest app but the camera is nowhere to be seen in Google Home. Nonetheless, when I try to add the camera to Google Home it says that it is attached to another account. How can I release this camera and start over? The first generation cameras do not have a physical reset button.

Were you trying to MIGRATE your Nest Account to a Google Account, or were you TRANSFERRING your 1st gen Nest camera from the Google Nest app to the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app?

If it was the former, you could check this Help topic for migration errors:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9297676

If it was the latter, you could try contacting Support (see below), since the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app has been in beta status since October 2022.

Neither process should prevent you from logging into the Google Nest app. (We migrated our Nest Account to a Google Account in 2020 and still use the Google Nest app, but have NOT transferred any of our 1st gen cameras and doorbells because the Google Home app still lacks so many Nest app functions (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/13038234#zippy=%2Cnest-app-only-features).

To contact Support:

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Select your device from the dropdown, click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

P.S.  I'm not sure what prompts you are getting.  We do NOT get prompts to migrate or to transfer.  (We are NOT on the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app.)
