Mobile device microphone sensitivity is low, impacting talk and listen

PhilipStory

Hello. Using talk and listen on my mobile device (Samsung galaxy note 10+) to talk through my nest doorbell or my nest cam (weird) has really low volume.

Performing basic troubleshooting, I've discovered that it's the mobile devices microphone sensitivity which is impacting the talk and listen volume. Having the bottom microphone of the mobile device directly Infront of my mouth (as if on a phone call) will allow loud volume, but being any further than a cm away, the microphone will not pick up on my voice.

Is this per design, and working as intended, or is this a bug.

I'd rather not have my phone hanging out my mouth when I'm trying to tell my pets off when I'm not home.

Thanks!!

Update on this - It's a problem only with the Google Home Preview app. Leaving the preview and going back to the original app it works fine and is super loud and clear!

Hey there,

Thank you for bringing up the concern you're experiencing, I would love to look into this further for you. The first troubleshooting step that I'd recommend would be to restart your device. This process should keep all your settings, and reconnect it to the same Wi-Fi network. This is helpful if it ever freezes, has connection problems, or isn't working normally.

Best regards,
Brad

Hi Brad.

Basic troubleshooting already performed. This is a software bug. Not hardware.

The issue hasn't even been addressed, why would you close it?

Simple yes or no answer, "Is this per design, and working as intended, or is this a bug."

Hey all,

Are you seeing the same things as lc94 here? If you leave the preview program does the issue clear up? Go ahead and give that a test and let me know what you find.

Thanks,
Jeff

I have the same issue on my Galaxy S21. I can see dozens of threads on here from other users over the last almost 2 years with all the same issues as well.

I have performed basic troubleshooting: rebooting phone and device, resetting the doorbell, making sure volume is set to maximum

That was it!

Here's hoping that doesn't make it in to the final release. Would be quite the annoyance of it did.

Hey there PhilipStory,

Awesome — glad to hear that your concern is answered. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread shortly unless I can help out with anything else.

Best,
Mel
