Motion Detecting Light - Change to Different, Less Obvious Light Than Extremely Bright Ring Light?

Hi! I've been trying to search for some information on my brand-new Nest Doorbell (Battery) and I haven't been having any luck. So maybe someone here can help?

First, I've noticed that anytime the doorbell detects motion, the ring light around the doorbell button flashes very brightly. Our neighborhood is pretty dark and this is VERY noticeable from the street. It was happening every time a car passed by - we only have notifications set up for people and packages. I was able to find a setting that would take this light setting from High, Auto (Default), or Low but it's unclear to me whether the "Status Light Brightness" setting is for the ring light or the green light that comes on when the camera is activated. Even at low, that light is pretty bright and draws attention to our front door. Is there really no way to turn that light off or make it less obvious that the doorbell is detecting motion? I have no problem with letting people know they are being recorded but I don't want to cause alarm if the camera is simply detecting motion and NOT recording. Example, anytime a car drove past, the ring light would start flashing very brightly as the camera was detecting motion. I feel like the camera was screaming hello at every single car or person on the street - Could the motion detector light be less obvious in ANY way?

Because I don't want my neighbors to feel like I'm invading their privacy as they drive to and from their own homes on a public street, I had to turn my Wake-Up Sensitivity setting to low. This stopped the camera from brightly flashing at cars and such but this also reduces what I was hoping to capture on camera when I bought this thing. I would love to capture video of our mailbox that's on the street but that can't be done with the wake-up sensitivity at low. I can't raise the Wake-Up Sensitivity any higher without the Ring Light brightly flashing at cars when the camera detects motion at night.

Any possible solutions here? Is there a setting I'm missing to change which light flashes when motion is detected? I feel like the ring-light uses up a lot of battery too.

Hello BananaAnna2008,

Thanks for posting in the Community. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with the light ring of the Nest Doorbell (battery). Let’s check it out.

The “Status light brightness” setting only controls the brightness of the status light, not the light ring. While this feature isn’t available, the best way to get your thoughts, feedback, or feature requests to the people who can make changes is to share feedback about Google Nest.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,

Lance
