My 2 yr old wired nest Hello won't connect to wifi now

My 2 yr old wired nest Hello started disconnecting from WiFi the past 2 weeks. Now I can't get to connect at all. Tried virtually everything from restarting to removing and then reinstalling. Is this the death knell of my ring hello after only 2 yrs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@MBG52

That shouldn't happen, unless there has been some change in your Wi-Fi network. Our Nest Hello Doorbells are 3-1/2 years old and 2 years old, and are still online.

Have you tried removing the doorbell from the Google Nest app and then doing a factory reset (while keeping the doorbell wired, pressing the reset pin and the doorbell button for 10 seconds)?

You're past the 1-year warranty, but you could try contacting Support, using the link and instructions in this post:

Thank you for the link. Restarted modem(again) then did a factory reset(again), then restarted my phone and went to the nest app and went thru the install steps again, and this WORKED, hope that this time it won't disconnect.

Thanks so much, this has been extremely frustrating the past week to get this camera to reconnect to wifi.

Once again my wired nest doorbell disconnected twice in the past week, seems to work for 2days or so then disconnects again, getting tired of removing nest from app, doing a restart on the doorbell then reconnecting to wifi, any reasons why this keeps happening and any permanent fixes? Very frustrated with this. All other connections to wifi not having issues. Could it be the nest itself?

Hi MBG52,

Thanks for getting back to us. To confirm, how far is it from your Wi-Fi router? Are there any appliances in between your Nest Doorbell and router that can interfere with the wireless signal? How did you perform the reset? Let us know your update here.

Regards,

Emerson

The nest doorbell has been in service for almost 3 yrs with virtually no disconnect issues prior to this now recurring problem.

I put a paper clip into the hole on the back of the nest and pressed the doorbell button at the same time. Lights flashed yellow a few times then was blue while I removed the doorbell from the app and rewent thru the steps .

Then when I tried to reconnect to wifi the nest app can't locate wifi.

It's been almost a week disconnected from WiFi and I can't think of why all of a sudden it no longer will connect.

My wifi provider said all that the router/ modem is functioning as it should.

Have tried multiple times to reconnect to wifi as I've just mentioned but have failed to get it to work

Hello MBG52,

I appreciate your update. Please try resetting it again to the factory default by following the steps below.

To reset:

1. To remove your Nest Doorbell from its base, insert the release tool into the hole at the bottom of it. You can also use an unfolded paper clip or a thumbtack.

  • Tip: Don't unscrew the wires attached to the back of your Nest Doorbell.

2. Hold down two buttons on your Nest Doorbell for about 10 seconds:

  • Hold down the reset pin on the back (insert the release tool or paperclip into the hole near the top).
  • At the same time, hold down the big doorbell button on the front.

3. Your Nest Doorbell will chime and its light ring will start spinning blue, then flash yellow, and then all the lights will turn off. This is the time that you need to release the two buttons.

4. The factory reset is complete when your Nest Doorbell chimes and the light ring starts slowly pulsing blue.

5. After the factory reset, your Nest Doorbell will appear as "Offline" in the app until you remove it.

6. To remove it from the app: open the app, then tap Settings  Remove device  Confirm.

7. If you're giving your Nest Doorbell to someone else, you're done. If you want to reconnect your Nest Doorbell to the app, simply go through camera setup in the app again.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Emerson

After resetting the doorbell for a second time as mentioned it reconnected, thank you for this help, but do you have any explanation why in prior attempts it worked for a few days then would disconnect? This is what is frustrating that it will  disconnect after a few days and then it becomes hard to get it to connect again. Any ideas as to why. Until the past month I've never had this disconnect issue. Thanks for any info you can give me.

As a follow up to my prior reply, the nest disconnected again about 6 hours after reconnecting. This has been an ongoing issue. Any reason why this is now happening? And is there any fix to keep it connected to wifi?

Hey MBG52,

I understand that it has been an ongoing issue and I wanted to help you with this. Could you confirm the distance between your Nest Doorbell and Wi-Fi router? Are there like concrete walls or appliances that might interfere? Is it connected to a 2.4GHz or 5GHz? You may also try restarting your router.
