NC021 or NC022 error messages when trying to set up Nest Doorbell

swAngel
Community Member

My Nest Doorbell 2nd gen (wired) is not communicating with my Pixel 5 during the set-up process.

I'm getting an NC021 or NC022 error message that appears to indicate that the device and my phone aren't seeing each other via Bluetooth. Not getting a chance to add Wifi creds to connect to my network.

All a bit strange as I've also set up a Nest Cam (Battery) and Nest Cam with Floodlight (wired) with ease.

Here's what I've tried:

Reset the device by using the supplied pin. When it "re-boots" it slowly glows orange rather than white?

Turned Bluetooth Off then On on my Pixel 5

Re-started my Pixel 5

Attempted to "add device" via Google Home but once I've selected Nest Doorbell, it boots me over to Nest for set-up.

Have tried setting it up via my partner's phone (Pixel 6a) but getting same error code.

Is there a way to manually connect my Pixel to the device i.e. by pairing it via my phone's Bluetooth app? If so, what's the Nest Doorbell's ID for Bluetooth purposes?

Any other ideas or is it potentially a faulty unit?

Thanks Juni

I had a call last week with one of the Nest customer service reps who was helpful but equally perplexed.

We identified that there might be a compatibility issue with the existing transformer not sending enough power to the doorbell unit. The rep sent me a list of  Nest "approved" transformers and I've asked my electrician to source and install it.

Once installed, I'll report back here

Cheers, SWA

Hi there,

We're still waiting for the new transformer to be installed by a qualified electrician so don't have a resolution for this yet. Therefore we can't report a positive outcome at this stage that would be useful for the Nest community.

As mentioned before, we'll post an update here once the transformer has been installed.

Thanks,

So, the electrician replaced the old transformer with one recommended by Nest and now the Door Bell communicates with my phone (Pixel) and connects to my wifi network. So all working fine. Hurrah!

It appears that the correct voltage is now getting to the Door Bell.

Hope this is useful for others experiencing set up problems.
