Neat Outdoor Camera - cable defects

Feldy
Community Member

There have been many reports in this forum of cable defects in the portion that runs from the camera; it seems the cable is not actually suitable for extended outdoor use.   Google doesn’t seem to support people outside of warranty and offers no way to replace just the cable.   Any suggestions besides buying a whole new unit?

Hey there,

Thank you for your patience! Unfortunately, @MplsCustomer is correct. We also do not process Warranty/Replacement Requests in these Community Forums. If you are seeking a replacement, please first fill out this form so Support can collect some important information from you. Once the form is submitted, you will have your case number.

Best Regards,

Brad

Sorry the form I sent must not be working, I will look into that, but you can use this one instead

Thanks but this form only leads me to contact support; I already chatted with someone last night who confirmed you don’t cover this defect if purchase was over a year ago, even though this is a well-documented design flaw (see all the posts in this forum).

Hi there,

Just checking in to see how the conversation is going as there's been a lapse in activity on this thread. I also wanted to know if you have found another option that would work for you. Please let me know.

Best regards,

Brad

Seriously?  You said you guys don't support your product outside of the warranty period despite the substandard materials used for the exterior cable and offered no solution, so no, I haven't found another option.

Another option would be some sort of third party option. If you have not yet searched outside of google, you can do that.

Best regards,

Brad

Then I am afraid there is nothing more I can assist you with. You are welcome to look to other third party sites for parts like ebay, but If your device isn't covered, then we cannot assist you moving forward.

Best regards,

Brad

Unlike Ring Arlo, Wyze, and Blink, Google Nest does not sell ANY spare parts for its cameras and doorbells, and instead tells customers to find a "third-party retail store".

You could unplug the camera and try cleaning out the debris where the cable is corroded and wrapping each wire and then the outer cable in electrical tape.

If your camera is less than a year old, you could try contacting Google Nest Support to see if they'll replace it, at: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp?hl=en

Thanks; I'll probably try your idea since they have refused to cover this cable (tried them on chat last night) despite it being a glaring design flaw.
