Hi,
Just bought a Nest Cam (battery), charged it to 100% and installed it outside to monitor the front yard. When installing the camera, it is able to detect me walking around doing the installation. However, once installed, it stops recording any event whatsoever.
- It's not plugged into power supply so running off battery and in Idle mode
- Set it to high sensitivity
- Resetted and re-installed twice...works fine in beginning after mounted but then stops recording
- Have set up zones etc. / removed zones and kept it generic for people/vehicles...same results
- Stood in front of camera and did jumping jacks for 2 minutes...still did not record
Not sure what I'm doing wrong or defective camera.

I have the same issue. Mine is always plugged in but it’s doing the exact same thing. Hoping to get answers here.

Called Google Nest support but they gave me the runaround and exactly at 60 min mark of the call, they disconnected.

Yep you've been put in the "too hard basket" like me.

We've had a battery camera for 20 months, plugged in with the optional power cable, and it is "Live" and online, and functions as well as our older wired cameras (except that we have to use the Google Home app). But if we unplug it, so it is running on battery power and in "Idle" mode, and walk in front of the camera to test it, it does NOT detect a "Person" event and does not record it. That's just our experience.

You unfortunately have been ripped off with a totally inferior product thats not fit for purpose at all. Ive had issues going on 18 months. The google advertising spiel fooled me well as did the dept store salesman.
The cameras are complete rubbish and simply "not fit for purpose at all".
Sux to be told that and have to accept it but its the truth.
If you can get a refund just get a refund asap and buy another brand. Google simply dropped the ball with nest battery cams they're only fit to put in the bin.

After reading through more community forums, looks like this issue has been lingering since 2020/2021 with no fix in sight. Miss the old Nest cam products that were built to last and reliable. This one going back in box for a refund. For a security monitoring device, this product misses on both the security and monitoring aspects.

The movement sensor google uses in the battery cams is worth about $1.
You wont regret buying another brand. I had a friend give me their nest battery cam recently after 6 months of hell trying to get the cam to work and all the while asking google for help and google support just kept lying their butts off repeatedly.
My friend bought "wyze" brand and love their products.
