Nest App migration?

Ashridge
Community Member

Have been a long time subscriber of Nest Aware for my Nest Hello doorbell. My subscription expired in October 2022, but the emails I received looked like a scam so I ignored them. I have renewed my subscription in January 2023.

However, it looks like that to use the subscription I will need to migrate my Nest app to the Google Home app.

Firstly could someone confirm that that is true. If it isn’t, how do I subscribe to Aware through the Nest App?

Secondly, what features will I lose if I migrate my Nest App to Google Home. I currently have the doorbell and 2x Nest Protects. I have the Google Home app with a Google Wi-Fi product.

One of the key features of Nest Hello that I would want to maintain is the ability to speak with someone that has rung the doorbell.

Thanks

To answer your first question, yes this is true. Once you cancel your gen1 subscription, Google no longer gives you the option to go back. This could be a moot point depending on how many cameras you have but for some users, this forced migration doubled their annual subscription costs.

In terms of lost features, you may not lose any depending on what your original subscription was and what new subscription you choose. However with one camera, your annual (or monthly) cost may likely be much higher than before to get 24/7 video history for example.

See this link for info on the subscription service.

No it does not. So I now know that my Nest Aware subscription has gone. But if I move my Nest hello to Ghome, will I still have the same functionality of viewing video and talking with people on my doorstep through the Ghome app, as I currently do with the Nest App? Or would I need to add a Google Home hub (at an extra cost) to get the same functionality I get through the Nest App today?

I also have 2x Nest Protects, which I also believe do NOT work with Ghome at all.

I would also be concerned about moving over my Nest thermometer for the same reason.

@Ashridge

You would be using two apps, Google Home app for your main cameras and doorbells, and probably Nest app for your other products like your Nest Protects. Functionality should remain mostly the same with some minor differences. You can now use the Google Home web app to view your cameras and doorbells if you have migrated your account. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support.

Best regards,

Brad
